trickedcarbine
535 in a KTM450 sounds bitchin'! Any light weight hybrid with a modern 4 stroke chassis and banshee engine that has been fabricated by someone competent and tuned right will be an absolute beast. Especially with a 535! Any build photos of the setup you are running?
10milmike
Yes you can get block of plates. When you get them port match them to your exhaust. With block off u feel the hit of the pipe a lot harder. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk
WINDYCITYJOHN400
we have a test tomoro morning at the beach, this will be a hard run, 800m straight, hairpin turn, 800m straight, hairpin turn, basically wot for 4 mins!! a lot of heat and pressure on the engine, Talk about a trial by fire!!!! If your not spewing coolant out the tailpipe by the first turn, you might be OK. If it makes the whole loop......your one lucky guy. Your on the right track though with the things your planning on checking. Fixing the dome shape is #1 on the list of fixes. You get that and the squish right and you will at least have a motor that won't eat itself. Power?....Now that's a whole other story........ Good Luck. bigred1977
haha I hear you, I checked the port durations today, 195/128 both equal too which was good to see, I took the 22cc domes and cut a 2 angle squish, first 5mm at 10deg, then ramped to13deg for the remaining8mm of squish, ended up at 24cc,took it for a little squirt an all seems fine for now have put the timing back at +5 and loaded it on the ute, tomoro awaits!! I have a set of 27 domes in the toolbox and will throw them in if I have issues.cant comment on power as I need to ring it a bit!! ..... time is running out........... lms1977
4 minutes of wot that thing will blow up I bet... mine doing a 600 ft hill which takes 10-20 seconds would heat up real quick... what ever jetting you come up with on the dyno ya better go up some to try and keep it cool. Good luck but I highly suggest you get it all running good before you try your beach racing or you will be pulling your wallet out again. bigred1977
couldn't agree more with you comments, from day one, heat dissipation was my main concern. the type of power and intensity these engines produce generates hea extremely fast, initially I had issues, but then I had some custom rads made, got totally ripped off at $1700 aus for them but they work. I can do a run on the dyno hard and these bring the temp down within seconds, it also takes a good deal of time for the heat to build up, as I say, to morrow will be a good test, our speeds are up to 180-200kms per hour so the airflow is a great deal better and fresher than the dyno room, we have a good functioning dash trailtech vepour, you can set your temp warning lights, retrieve your max temps, outside temp and current engine temp too. I have already gone up from my dyno size jetting we were at 155 main on the dyno, popped it up to 165, however the first few runs will be chopping to check, with the engine running consistant temps, it lends its hand to good jetting responses, regardless of how much I put into this bike I still have huge doubts!! am beginning to think its just a lead weight, to moro will tell, I will post up my results, my fingers are crossed and the odds stacked, am not a gambling man, but if pushed I would be 50/50 at the mo.... I'm sure that is true but if he is really wot for 1600 plus meters that's getting close to a mile that is a long time ..

bigred1977
results..... got to the beach, rider started up bike, I set off walking 800 paces with the marker, I heard the bike just riding up and down about halfish throttle, counted uptoo about 700 paces and I heard the sound we all don't want to hear......... got a pillion back to the bike pulled the plugs, lhs cylinder was geat no dramas, rhs cylinder was white grey!!!! bike was red hot, wtf!!! wtf!!! finger over the plug holes, compression on lhs, not even a wisper on the rhs!! whipped the head off at the beach, lhs was text book running, rhs huge hole in the piston and melted round the edge, at this point I was just deflated, couldn't even be fuked looking any further, put it on the truck headed back to the workshop, engine out, cylinder off cleaned off a few small smudges, diamond honed it and it was fine, cpicked the ally of the cyl head and lightly sandblasted the head, that can out ok 2, took one look at the crank, wasn't too happy, just washed it out in the kerobath(hoping it doesn't effect any seals or orings, ) any way keep washing it out, then washed it out with 2 stroke mix, blew it out, filed it up with 2 stroke oil, turned it over and it felt good( its prob fuked but I don't care at this point).... so a predicted earlier, new pistons, gaskets etc , assemble and refit, cleaned out the carbs quadruple checked everything and pushed her outside for a start up, starts runs good, leave it a bit, few revs etc,, see smoke coming from the back of the engine!!! what fukin now... I take a closer look only to find a fuking crak about 4mm long on the top crankcase underneath the coolant hose that runs at the back of the cylinder out the back of the clutch cover...... so I push it inside shouting and cursing at this bike, in disbelief of yet another prob that has reared up...... I didn't coe to any analogy of why it popped a hole in the piston, quite clearly it had leaned out or become so hot it leaned out, my qaundry was the other cylinder was mint.... when I started it up after its quick top end, my cause became vey clear!!!,,,,,, any one have tis before???? I really couldn't be fuked with it so I have just cleaned it off and devcon,ed the shit out of it, I have come to the conclusion that if this bike throws another shit ball once again, it will be parked up for good, too much time money and energy has gone into it, such a fruitless pile of shit!!.. the devcon takes 24hrs to go off,.... we are off to the beach again 2 moro to see what happens this time..... rubberneck
shit man, you didnt do a leak down test before hand?
bigred1977
no I didn't mate, you see the bike wasn't been ridin hard, didn't wring out, if anything it just sounded as if it ran out of juice.in jindsight yeah I should of, but only when I freshened it up as a leakdown through a windy piston wouldn't of told me jack, there is no damge to the new build(yet) and am only at the same stage I would bin finding it any how, doesn't really matter know anyway.... fukin bag of shit will prob run great now it has a nasty pile of devcon slapped on it.... way it goes eh.... bigred1977
and to add to that, the time prior to the beach test we had the same setup at the drags, did 4 runs with no dramas, well, except plug backing, which we id as the converging dome, so as noted we fixed that and then this issue, its how it has been with this bike, one issue after the other, it just doesn't seem to stop..hahah seem to stop, well I should rephrase that it just doent seem to go...
rubberneck
yeah i hear ya too late now. May have saved you a set of pistons today, but hindsight is 20/20 right. After having a set of cylinders leak out the sides of the fucking transfers right near the rear studs I have gotten in the habit of testing them anytime i put one together. Never had one leak do to assembly mistakes but it opened my eyes.
