robert0762
How do you get the pistons out with the motor upside down and the bottom case off? You don't Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
RagunCajun
I remember having trouble compressing the rings to put them back in the juggs from doing it upside down with the jugs on. But that was years ago. Dont attempt that, do it right. It sucks screwing up and having to pull the motor right after to do it again. J-Madd
I'm confused because the pistons won't normally come through the bottom of the top case half. I never hesitate to split it with the top end still on. But the pistons stay in the cylinders.

Pastrykiller
My thoughts exactly Some people just have to learn the hard way. It would be easy if he tied a rope on each end of the crank and loop it over the head. Lift the upper half off without disturbing the crank. I'm betting that he will end up gettin it back together and misaligning a shift fork. He won't know until he is missing a few gears after its back together. m671054
Ive been thinking about the whole ring deal since i first read it couple days ago. i dont think the ring would come out of the skirts on the sleeve even if you ran a large spacer plate. Tommygunn
Did you get this figured out tommy? Sorta...it's still in there. I've been so busy lately and out of town, I Just haven't had time. I did spend about 30min messing with it. If you stick a screwdriver in there you can spin it pretty easy. You can even grab onto part of it with a flathead and pull it out, just not enough to get my fingers on it. I feel much better knowing that it's just in there loose. I'm going to pick up a magnet and I think that will take care of it. I messed up though. I forgot that I didn't have the nut holding the clutch basket onto the shaft when I leaned the bike on the side. The basket came off and hit the floor and broke one of the tabs. So now need to order a new clutch basket and hopefully I can get this thing back together.
Tommygunn
Ok it's not coming out with the magnet. it's loose inside and will slide back and forth but will gets to a point and wont come any farther. I downloaded the manual and looked at a parts diagram and I just do not see what could be holding it. Is it time to split the case or are there any other ideas? nightmarebanshee
so i read that you tipped it over and basket broke...did you try and flip it again after that? and if you take the engine out tip it on its side just to try it again before you split the case...had the same problem with mine just decided to turn it on its side before i split it and it came.out. I didn't tap it hard though. I'll try it again when I get home from work and tap it a little harder.
03DMshee
Pull the clutch cable lever out of case if you havnt already...look down there...the arm might have mushroomed the end of rod closest to gear selector side of case. ..so it might be getting caught right as it trys to pass through

Tommygunn
Ok so I pulled the clutch cable lever out of the case and I can see the other end of the shaft. It's a little mushroomed. you can see a good sized burr on it. Is there enough play in there where I would maybe push it from one end and pull from the other? I tried turning it on the side and tapping on the trans shaft with a hammer while pulling with a small magnet and it didn't work. Any ideas?
