turbowrenchhead
Lol, I did smoke a fat bowl a few hours ago. From what ppl have said it looks like foam with prefilters hold up better to water and mud then a paper k&n. Get paper wet and your done for the day letting it dry out. Foam you can rinse with gas ring it out with paper towel and re oil on the spot.

turbowrenchhead
Your right k&n is a cloth/gauze type material. I know that when I clean them they have to sit overnight.
WINDYCITYJOHN400
Your right k&n is a cloth/gauze type material. I know that when I clean them they have to sit overnight. Yeah....because you washed all the oil out of them. But with a water repellent outerwear.....the outerwear get's splashed and water runs off. Any water tgat makes it to the filer material is largely repelled by the oil that is already soaked into the filter material. With a foam filter....it's an oil covered sponge. The pours are bigger, but the filter is thicker. So foam is better for fine dust. But water soaks into the core requiring you to wring it out just like a sponge. K&N get's wet......you sit for 3 minutes and re-start the bike. MY belief - K&N for wet or sand Foam for fine dust Your the owner, so it's your call. I have no personal stake in this. I just don't want to see you need another top end......or have to tote a MacGyver kit around incase you hit a puddle. LOL

Like I said I'm going to have both setups so I'm better prepared for conditions.
turbowrenchhead
Do you oil spray outwear/prefilter covers?
turbowrenchhead
This seems like a decent deal. http://www.ebay.com/itm/251182076542?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
sheerider11
Fuck foam all together. Dry- fine dust gets through and soaks up like a sponge. Oiled- clogs up so fucking fast, the bike suffocates and almost hydro locks its self because 0 air can get thought the built up crap. WINDYCITYJOHN400
Do you oil spray outwear/prefilter covers? NO! They are a nylon like material and shed water due to the smallness of the weave. (Like a micro fiber) Oil on the Outerwear's actually blocks airflow. Little trick: When oiling your outerwear's, put the filter over the end of a shop vac hose. (Filters for 35PWK's fit perfect on my Rigid vac hose) Do this for a while to fully dry the material after cleaning the filters. Now as you go to oil them (I use the spray kit) The shop vac will be drawing air thru the filter. This will help the oil to distribute evenly and also eliminate any overspray losses. Works great to pull oil down into the higher spots. Allow the vac to pull a little bit till the filter oil fully soaks in. Then shut vac off and carefully slide your Outerwear's on. (The rigid vac pipe works well as a filter support while you work the Outerwear.) The K&N design is pleated, so the Outerwear hardly touches the filter material at all. Also note: Most K&N filters come pre oiled now......so don't get carried away oiling when you first get them. Just get familiar with how they look new and the amount of oil you see on/in them. turbowrenchhead
I've cleaned and recharged several K&N's over the years of being a mechanic.
turbowrenchhead
I'm going to order up those k&n's and pre filters and give it a shot. Whats the worst that can happen? Blow up another top end.
