Stock Banshee Drag Racing Techniques?

Okay I have a weird scenario here. I have a bone stock Banshee for now and when my friends and I got out to ride for a day I always get involved in some drag races with them. Thing is I havn't taken the shee out yet to ride with them because I havn't had it long.

I need to know what is the best way to launch a totally stock shee on hard packed dirt? I have heard some people say to start in 2nd gear, would this be faster than starting in first? Also should I really wind out the mid range gears like 3rd and 4th or just shift through them as quick as possible?

My competition usually consists of Piped Raptors, 400EXs and an occasional V-Force hopefully I can do fair against these.

Sorry for the stupid questions guys, just a new Banshee owner trying to get the most out of my machine and embarass some 4-Strokes!

you might have to fan the clutch a bit for a second start after she starts rolling, id stretch 4th as far as it will go before it starts to float same with 5th, maybe try a 15 tooth sprocket up front, but with it stock youd have to fan the clutch even more with a 15, if you want to hook up start by a shorter swing arm, then maybe you can get the jump off the line for dirt dragging with your pals.....

if your stock i got my best starts on hard packed dirt in first just pull the clutch in revv it up a good bit and dump away you spin a bit but if its a problem you can allways short shift into second that way you dont even come close to boggin like you could startin in second. just what worked for me.

Come on!!! Your racing a 400ex and a Raptor, start in first gear, rev her up and launch it!!! The 400ex won't hang unless it's pretty worked over. Now the raptor might give ya a little trouble come 4th gear but If you hit your shifts right you might win. Only one way to find out! Win or Lose keep your head high cuz your riding a Banshee. Let us know how you did, IM me!

start in second gear. the less you gotta shift the better. since its dirt and wont hook that good put you ass back on the seat almost on the grab bar as long as it dont come up on ya. slap those gears as fast as you can w/o bogging it. turn around and wave to them.

when i raced in grass or hard packed dirt, i would start in sec. my suggestion is to do a couple of practice runs. if you can get off in sec then thats one less gear to go with. also when i used first it would either spin out or hook up way to much adn wheelie, which you dont want.

after get agoing hold the bitch wot, and shift full throttle it can handle it.

good luck

  • 1 year later...

When my banshee was stock i raced alot of ppl. All i had was shredders and they make a difference. Start out in second and rev it high enough where it doesnt bog.

On hard packed dirt i beat a 400 ex, and raptor from begginig to end

I raced a piped raptor with a rider at least 70 pounds heavier and we shared wins

I raced a stock YFZ and it beat me from begging to end by about 1 bike lenghts

this was on a 300 ft drag

Just practice

when i drag on dirt, I usually start in 2nd when the traction is pretty good. I rev it up pretty good so it wont bog and kinda set in a neutral position on the seat leaning over the bars. Then when I dump the clutch and it starts to spin, I slide all teh way back to the grab bar to get traction and hold er wide open the whole way to the finish line. I never let of the gas when i shift and I just have to barely pull the clutch in to shift. nothin shifts like a banshee, i think, :bolt:

and I shift through the gears as fast i can till about 5th, where i like to whind it out, on a 300ft track, which is what i race on
