Banshee pipe tuned lengths

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, i was wondering if a few of you could help me out on some pipe tuned lengths as a starting point. I am currently building a banshee powered, KTM framed, Timbersled snowmobile track kit, monster of a bike! I am working with a ktm 300 pipe and building it into a 2 into 1 system something like what Dynoport is offering. the problem is that i don't have a normal set of banshee pipes to get a starting point for the tuned length. would a few of you be able to offer up some advice on a starting point for a tuned length of regular banshee pipes, and if i'm lucky.... one of you out there has a dynoport or similar single pipe that could also give me a measurement! If it makes any difference to anyone with alot of experience, the bike is going to be a stock bored cylinder, lowered timing .015" and i am planning on putting in a 4 mil stroker crank and it will likely be a 2 into 1 carb setup. Thanks

Your port timings will be way different from what you want to do with .015. If you plan on doing a 4mil have the cylinders ported for that by a sponsor on here. As far as pipes I take it you are trying to build your own? I would get into contact with someone like Shearer or Jim at Passion. They have plenty of pipe experience. I wouldn't recommend a 2 into 1 carb setup with a 4 mil either.

i have pics but have no idea how to post them, they are too big to attach and I don't know how to do it otherwise. Being a dirtbike I am kinda stuck in a bunch of ways by putting in a twin, I still may run dual carbs but space is going to be an issue which is why I might end up doing a single. I was thinking of a single carb off of a ski-doo summit 800 because they have the option of carb heaters. the pipe just plain and simple needs to be a single. and I wanted to stroke it to get a little more torque. Zillafreak, do you have these pipes? would you be able to get a rough measurement on the tuned length for me? I basically have the pipe already built from the engine back, but I want to know a starting point for the length so I can cut it now and try it out. I realize that it is probably going to be cut and tuned more than once but i'd like to be at least in the ballpark for the first try. If I can get it to work ok i'll run with it, but if I can't I might just have to send what I have away and get someone to build a new one that will fit in its place.

the pipe is allready built basically. all i need is a length. the ktm pipe was used because it allready has the correct profile to fit a dirtbike where a banshee pipe would not. i had to add about an inch in the center of the pipe and i will need to add a piece behind the rear cone to match up with the silencer pipe. but i would like to adjust the length of the pipe at the rear cone before i finalize that. the only hint i have found on this entire site is a formula.... (EXH. Duration x 1700)/ pipe tuned length = RPM     so this gives me about a 38 inch pipe for 8000 rpm peak

ok..  i'm really trying to understand this.  from what i gather  a dirt bike with a snow track on it?

really  why not just use a big ktm 4 stroke....   i think your wasting your time..  with a 4 mill  jacked up porting and a screwed up 2-1 pipe and 2-1 carb i think you would be less than stock hp and tq ratings.  thats around 40hpish  not nearly enough to turn a track setup.  you need TQ me thinkks
