pickerg1
I just picked up a 2000 Banshee. Not new to quads, but new to 2 strokes and the banshee. She's a pain in the ass to start for the most part and doesnt like to idle once she's warmed up.Down low and all midrange she seems to scream pretty good, but top end kinda blows. About 64Mph top speed.... I THINK the idle and starting issue could have to do with cleaning the carb and possible a pilot jet but not really sure and want some GOOD opinions on it. The exhuast is stock, its has a foam air filter and a drilled out air box. It also is running a trinity Stage IV single carb converstion kit. Not really sure how big the carb is or how the hell to tell Any advice on where I should start would be appreciate but I just want her to idle better and make sure she's jetted properly.I know I need a set of pipes on this bad girl, but I'm buyin a house right now so that's not in the cards just yet. Would appreciate the help, thanks in advance! Gary.

joey83
I think you answered your own question. Clean carbs, check pilot jet first. Fresh fuel? Other things might be compression check and leak down test ---Productive Mofo
pickerg1
Sell it refferring to what? The quad - No.
pickerg1
ditch that manifold, it sucks. yeah, hear mixed reviews on that single carb setup. What would I switch to ? dual stock carbs seems like a pain in the ass.
fastbanshee8
Dual stock carbs aren't a pain in the ass, if you have them set up with a TORS delete. Many have ran them, so getting them jetted right is very easy.
1CrazyBastard
Dual stock carbs are fairly easy and they run perfectly for me.I trail ride so the stock carbs are good for me and I'm happy with my banshee .You can find stock carbs on here for cheap http://bansheehq.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=168862 maybe a set of pipes and a 2 in 1 filter set up and be happy it'll run good . pickerg1
well what do you plan to do with the quad? just trail ride? if so, ditch that shitty manifold, and get a graydon manifold. if you want to run a bigger manifold, i could get you one that is good. Yes, just mostly trail ride, but I'm a speed junky so I'd like her to run as good as possible and have some serious nuts. I'll have the means to buy parts this winter, was just hoping to get her running as good as possible with the parts I have now for the rest of this season. pickerg1
things you should know or do concerning your Banshee clean out your carb, measure how big it is (the hole that points towards the motor) that is how the hell you tell , find out what jets it is running the bike still runs...do a plug chop, don`t know what that is? find out do a compression test and a leakdown test, work out what is the elevation you are above sea level, find out what gearing your bike has, what octane rating does the fuel you are using have? If your bike does not pass a compression and leakown test a set of pipes are the least of your concern$$$ *knowing and providing this shit will help people provide you with a clue whe you start a help thread^ there is over a decade of tuning information and help threads on here, read through some of it, 99% of it concerns DUEL CARBS, if your bike has stock pipes on it still after 13 years you would do well to go back to the stock duel carb set up, if you think that seems like a pain in the ass...sell it and go back to whatever you were riding before *tip Google and Youtube are your friends, use Google over the BHQ search engine to find helpful specific threads, type what you want to know, make sure "Banshee" is part of the text..look for the BHQ links Youtube is also littered with helpful videos from jetting to rebuilding a bottom end, baking a cake, making a home made gun, highschool girls twerking...everything you need to get through life really. have a nice day This is great info and is appreciated. I will do a compression and leak down test as soon as I can. Im in the process of moving (hence the lack of funds at the moment). So once I get settled in a week or two I'll try to get her a checkup. As for selling her, not gonna happen. I just need to learn, im not giving up. Im here for an education. I've known nothing but four strokes but love the power of a two stroke and know I can make a monster out of her eventually if she's got good compression and no leaks. I'm a car guy gone motorsports guy (mostly because it is MUCH cheaper,,, nobody even TRY to argue that with me, I've spent $70k in the last 15 years on car shit). Cars are way too expensive to mess with. A clutch for my car was $1200... I have more fun on the quads anyway than I ever did draggin cars so I need to learn all about my new hobby and how to work on them. All the replies are appreciated guys, keep em rollin. Deadbeat
so what sort of cars you been drag racing then
pickerg1
so what sort of cars you been drag racing then 68 Camaro Big Block , 99 LS1 Camaro , 85 Monte SS that I did a 87 Grand National Drivetrain swap on (did it myself in a 1 car garage.. fun times) and a 2005 WRX STi (didnt drag this one much, had more fun in the snow with it). I'm no stranger to tools and working on stuff, thats for sure. As an update, I'm going to pick up a compression tester tonight and possibly a leak down tester this week. Harbor Freight has a low PSI one that seems like it should do the trick. I'm going with a craftsman compression tester. These are tools I should have anyway, I've got everything else under the sun, why not those.
n2otoofast4u
70k over 15 years isn't that bad IMO. You will find that this shit isn't as cheap as you think especially if you wanna go fast.
pickerg1
WELL,I finally got around to a compression test this weekend and it was NOT good.Top end rebuild is in dire need. Its already .040 over, so I'm going to need to go .060 over judging by the play in the piston.I already ordered a top end rebuild kit with forged pistons from Wiseco Also, Here's the single carb that is on this thing: Anyone have any idea what size that thing is and what jets I should be running? Ball park ish? Im at sea level and its about 80 degrees F , I run 93 octaine fuel. The jets in it now are 50 for the main jet and 170 on the other jet. Any advise would be appreciated.
