sheerider11
Any gauge will work. Like I said if you can get a gauge with the threads pretty close to the length of the spark plug that's optimal. But if not your reading won't be that far off. If you can warm the engine up then do it.
250rbanshee
Check both cylinders. If there is a 8-10 psi variance between the 2 or if it is low its time for a rebuild. Usually the higher end gauges are more accurate.
Starwriter
So, if a compression test hasn't been done, it's a pretty safe assumption that a leakdown test has never been done since you have owned the bike. That would be the next step, after you do a compression test, even if you plan to tear it down.

Starwriter
Well the banshee is under 2 years old. It's a 2011 model. And that's you logic for not needing to do a leakdown test? WOW$$$$$$$!!!!!
sheerider11
A 6 minute test to save 600 dollars. It's wrong to not do it.
Uf21
And that's you logic for not needing to do a leakdown test? WOW$$$$$$$!!!!! No, what I meant was its under 2 years old, so it shouldnt really be causing any issues engine wise yet, right? I'm all for looking after my quad, I'd rather do something now than lose later by not doing it.
locogato11283
Time means nothing when it comes to a Banshee motor. They can blow up in ten minutes or ten years.
Uf21
If the compression is low, can or will it damage anything or cause more problems?
sstaton1983
If the compression is low, can or will it damage anything or cause more problems? it will make it hard to start to start.

Uf21
Also would a 14mm deep deep thread compression teseter give accurate results? The br8es is 14mm diameter by 20mm depth right?
Uf21
Just a question. If it is low compression is it hard to start when the engine is warm and cold?
