Young Guns Racing
Hey guys. I am new to anything outside of a stock stroke banshee. I've looked into and read about many projects and I am contemplating starting my own. Currently I am looking at HJR's 4mil stock cylinder kit. Says comes with all you need, just send your cylinders in for porting, bolt it all on and go. Question number one is do I need to have my case trenched for this? Secondly and perhaps the most important question is what supporting mods do I need to run a 4 mil setup with the dune/play port? Id like to do alot of open field riding and the occasional friendly drag race. Currently for the build I would have vforce 3 reeds, billet intakes (currently for stock carbs) and a cool head. What domes should I use for pump fuel at just about 1,500ft elevation? All in all im asking what would I need to run and support 70+HP? Badbar88
I used went to HJR for the exact same thing. Cases don't need anything done to them, port matching them is optional. Buy whatever domes Kevin recommends for your setup. Stock carbs will be fine for now.
sheerider11
No trenching, he would cut the domes to your specs. You would need the correct jetting, a good clutch, pipes and intake that will flow well.
sheerider11
Also don't over look suspension, you can have the fastest bike in the world. Useless if it handles like shit
Young Guns Racing
Absolutely sheerider, defenitly suspension will be a factor but I can handle that part. I just was curious as to what I would need engine wise to support such a thing. I forgot to mention I currently have a set of Toomey T5's. Good enough pipes? Or would I need to go to someone like Shearer or CPI?
sheerider11
Well if you really are after the 70hp then yeah.
Badbar88
Adjustable timing plate wouldn't hurt either.
Young Guns Racing
Excellent, sounds like I am on the right track. Thanks guys! If anyone else wants to chime in with advice it will be very welcome.
do-work-son
I would spend the extra money and make sure to upgrade to a good crank. Not sure what hjr has in those kits but for not much more money he will upgrade the crank to a hotrods with extra weld
cciao
I was wondering the same thing, when doing the 4mil upgrade do the cases need to be bored to match the cylinders? Think it's $ 150! Option to get em done. Is it worth it?

possum
Be very clear and get a hotrods crank! If it was me I would run it on race gas. And get some 35-38 carbs.
troyzstang
^ What he said.( regarding the crank) Are you committed to HJR ? There are quite a few builders to choose from here. Personally speaking I would call around. I will speak for Brandon from Wildcard simply because he did outstanding work on my stock cylinder build. Whenever I need help or advice I make one call to him. Just that easy. Good luck with whoever you go with. Troy
oldskool
maybe a pancake bearing and some Heavy duty springs. I'm gonna say 22cc domes with the 4mil on pump gas
Sandking
Heavy duty spring not needed per FAST if using barnett clutch
