gordo_dk
I'm building a 350 drag bike and I have a concern on whether or not a lockup clutch is for me, since I've heard that lockups are only for 80+ hp bikes, although I am going with an override tranny....any help will be appreciated
crf250man
A lock up would all depend on your set up I'm just a beginner myself build my first build over the winter. I'd recommend a override if your strictly dragging it will help you get into that next gear a hell of a lot faster and if you ran a lock up you could run lighter springs so your hand isn't cramping up every shift
gordo_dk
Ok, and what about a billet basket? Is that any good I'm new to the full drag set up thing thanks!
troyzstang
X2 Run the lock up. I run a slingshot and it works great. Good luck with your build. Troy
gordo_dk
Do you think I should upgrade the basket too?
joshb
You can also get a stock modded tranny instead of an override. They are a good option if your not 100% drag.
gordo_dk
Even if I run methanol? What's a modified tranny? How does it work?
joshb
I don't modify them so I'm not 100% sure on the details but I know they work good. There's no springs or anything and an take the abuse of a stock transmission ie back loading it . But the the other part is they shift awesome with much less effort. I believe barely pulling the lever or slightly letting off the throttle allows you to shift. Camatv would know ALL about it.
n2otoofast4u
If its a DRAG bike the only tranny you should consider is a full override. Run a lock-up. You dont have to run a billet basket, but when the times comes that yours is wore out its a good upgrade. Whos building the motor?
joshb
I agree but if at time you want to just ride it around and back load the tranny the modded tranny is a better idea IMO .
gordo_dk
Yeah I've talked to camatv already but I don't have the funds to sen my motor to him lol, I'm sending my motor o Tripones racing in I dio california
joshb
Well it's just the transmission. It's like 250-275$ isn't it? Do you plan on doing drag only? Do you have any override experience?
gordo_dk
I plan to ride a little but mostly drag, and no new to the full drag world
crf250man
I run the sling shot also troyzstang, adjustability is awesome on it....
joshb
Well it's up to you on if you want to ride without pulling the clutch in before stopping or not. Banshee overrides are pretty tough and awesome but still just about a one trick pony. If you plan on letting other people who don't really know much ride it I wouldn't go override.
