Troy~Lee~Shee
Three days after I got my new to me Banshee (87') a couple of old folks asked me if I wanted to go for a ride with them out in the Oregon Dunes where I live and I decided to go. After around 20 minutes of the most boring riding of my life I decided to go off on my own cause there idea of a fun day in the dunes included slow woop riding, but right when I made that choice my bike decided to have a shit fit and sieze up. I should have known that my Banshee wouldn't play well with that damn Polaris crap . The guys I was riding with thought I had gone off on my own, but instead I was stuck 3 or 4 miles from the parking lot and to make matters worse it started to rain. 4 1/2 hours of lifting the back end up and walking it 2 feet I got it back to my truck it the dark and rain I thought the worst was behind me, but someone had decided to take a brick and place it into my window and steal my stereo. Then I thought the worst was over because how could things go any lower...I pulled the engine apart the next morning and what was left of it fell into little pieces onto the ground. $1200 and 3 weeks later I decided I would never ride my Banshee slow ever again. Why did all of this happen, a fouled plug.
fixitrod
Your pilot or needle jet may have been lean. You may have had your main all set up but not the others...... or you just had an airleak and didn't know it. What did the pistons look like. Was it the top end or bottom end that locked up? Wassup350
That does suck, i agree with fixitrod, maybe since you were riding more at lower RPMs, your pilot or needle must have been lean.
Troy~Lee~Shee
What the mechanic who did most of the the engine work on it told me was that the left side had stopped firing and after a while of it running on only one cylinder the unequal pressure on the crank bent/broke it sent the left piston into the cylinder wall and the piston broke when it hit. Then peices of either my piston or crank fell down into the tranny, tearing it up untill I stopped moving. The mechanic said if I had been riding at higher RPM's I would have noticed that the bike was only using one cylinder.
fixitrod
When my quad is firing only one cylinder, it bogs like an sob. I'm sure you would have noticed.
Troy~Lee~Shee
Yeah mine does that too, but because I was already bogging it down (becuase I was riding very slow) I didn't even notice I was only using the power from only one cylinder. Banshee(XTC)
yeah i always notice a huge difference on plugs. i always try keeping an extra set or two with me at all times. not that it would have helped in your situation much. sorry to hear about the engine though. banshee2sick
That's why I keep a screwdriver under my seat...so if something locks up like this, I can take out the master link and roll the shee, instead of picking the back up and carrying it home.
