sheerider11
I hate to say it but sand dragging is some hillbilly shit. I have a drag bike. If the sand drag tracks started making us wear all that it would be the end of it. If your running asphalt I understand the need for all that gear. This is for fun not a big sponser or job. This is a hobby. and that's the attitude that fucks it up. I just saw a pic on Instagram that sand2k posted of a crash he saw at the drags. Luckily he said the walked away bruised. I hope some one can contact him and have him throw up the pic here

tundish2800
No its not. If you worked and did what I do for a living you would be sick of hearing about safety stuff. This is for FUN. I'm sorry I don't want a bunch of fun governors making my hobby shitty.
tundish2800
Also anyone who gets on one of these machines knows what can't happen. So if you feel safe in shorts and a t shirt or full racing gear that's your choice. You should not have to have someone tell you what to wear. n2otoofast4u
Hobby? Maybe to some. But to many its past that point. Its become something that deserves national and local media attention and large sponsors to not only fund the teams but to provide large payouts. None of which will happen with current rules. tundish2800
Its my hobby. I have 100 inch wheel base rigid but its what I do for fun. The guys who make money from it more power to them. But don't make my hobby shitty cause you want kick backs from sponsers. I agree younger kids need the safety gear. As an adult I don't think you should have to be told what to wear when you race. You know the risk when you race. Use your head don't let someone else think for you.
n2otoofast4u
You married or have kids? Got friends or family? If you answered yes to any of those then you need to be slapped for being so selfish. So you would rather act like a cool guy and play your nobody is gonna tell me what to do bullshit, KNOWING that one bad move on your part or someone else's part could cost you your life, your financial stability, or even worse cripple you to the point that one of those very people now have to care for you and wipe your ass for you everyday. Your right, you DO know the risks, and your dumb as a day old democrat if you continue to turn your back on those risks.
tundish2800
If you feel you want full race gear more power to you. That's your choice, let me make mine. I think people forgot that bad shit can happen its part of life. If your so worried about getting hurt while riding go play bingo instead. I'm sorry I don't want a bunch of fun governors making my hobby shitty. I've got a job that constantly crams safety shit in every orifice all day every day. I can't say I agree with all of it all the time, but if there is any common sense present you would start to see that there is some reasoning behind it. I'm lucky enough to say that I've never really had any kind of accidents to require the gear, but I've seen enough to know better. Ill have to agree with green on this one that your approach is pretty narrow minded and selfish. If I was your wife, kid, nephew, sister, brother, or whatever, I'd tell you to wipe your own ass if that day ever comes. I get the idea of how it's fun and you should be able to do what you want when you want on your time, but you aren't 12. Are you?

I think people forgot that bad shit can happen its part of life. If your so worried about getting hurt while riding go play bingo instead. Just my .02 The problem here is that this is NOT just about you. It affects everyone in the drag racing community. At some point, tracks will not even be able to get liability insurance if they don't meet certain safety standards. Adding to that, if there are several accidents at a track where the riders weren't wearing proper safety gear at a minimum, it's going to end in a lawsuit. That's just how it is these days. We are no longer living in the age of personal responsibility. Today it's, "blame someone else first and see if you can cash in on it." As far as I am concerned, these tracks should FORCE people to wear the proper safety gear or do not race. If the riders are passionate about the sport, it will not be an issue. If the riders care about anyone, other than themselves, it will not be an issue.
sprinklerman
I hope topics like this eventually make some kind of change in this sport. I think without some semblance of professionalism, this sport will continue to die a slow death. If we could get some big-time sponsors and publicity it will only infuse money into it. As for the guy thinking it just YOUR choice,,,no its not. Surely there is someone in your life that would prefer you around for a long time, and preferably not in a wheelchair. What do you have to lose by wearing safety gear?? Its not expensive. Its not an inconvenience. I cant fathom why someone WOULDN'T want to wear it. BigRed350x
For the money we spend on these things, the price of the safety gear is nothing. Good post green. I'd stand behind those rules.
#1JUANstunna
I can say that I will be changing my habits when I race. As soon as my broke ass can get the money together I'll be ordering a LEATT neck brace from ATV Galaxy. I don't give two shits if I'm the only one wearing it when its hotter than hell, I'll have it on.BTW I do this as a hobby. I also farm as a hobby and hundreds if not thousands of people are killed farming yearly.
So Cal Suspension
So, uh, if you have your street car, and you take it to the local drag strip, they don't require you to wear a helmet, have a cage if you run under a certain ET, chute under a certain ET, tech inspection? For fuck's sake, you might as well say "Fuck the lights, I'm just going to hit the gas when I feel like it!" Fucking stupid.
