Pump gas 421 opinions

Recommended Posts

I have a stock cub that pulled 86hp on race gas. 20cc domes. Shearer pipes and pwk35's. It was a stout motor but as all of the members have preached....it's good for a while and then u want more.

I was told by a few members and builders that my original setup of t-5's and pump gas on the cub would contribute to high exhaust gas temps at the exhaust ports. This would ultimately result in a motor that would exhibit a lean condition regardless of what I changed.

I know that sprinkler man has a ported serval so maybe he will chime in with his first hand knowledge.

Cubs will give u light switch power. It's flat then u gotta hold the Fuck on. The serval "from what I hear" is smooth and plenty powerful on the power. Just not a desired drag motor for topend due to the flat 9500 rpm drop.

Both motors are good for a specific application out of the box. Throw both in a builders hands and they can make magic happen. It's just hard to stretch higher rpms from a serval.

A serval will run great on pump gas. A cub....not so great. Yes finch they will run but I had a huge increase in power when I went to race gas on the cub.

So you ride street? I would venture to say that you might be more happy with the cheetah you mentioned. The serval is far less work but if you are riding in the streets where it is nice and wide open, the serval will be signing off pretty early compared to the cheetah. A cub would be great in open roads if you really have a place that you can get away with riding it. Problem is they are less then stellar on pump fuel like you want to run. Race gas or alky would be another story though. Go with the cheetah. It will be a bit more work, but it will be able to have decent low end, still pull RPM's and do it on pump fuel. So for you, of you have the cash it is the way to go.

Thanks guys. I hear it all the time... You don't use your quad for what it's made for!!!I got a 25.5 cert 68 Camaro with a 540, an 04 cobra, 08 gt500, 11 carbon le z06, 06 hayabusa... I just like to go fast!!! I'll call around and see who rubs me the right way lolDo you have any preference pasty?

At least you dont brag about your junk. All that money and you are hell bent on running pump?? Interesting tactic.

Haha sorry guys didn't mean to brag but I was just trying to make a point that I like to go fast, not really into the trails. And I work very hard to fund my toys, but since I'm not rich I gotta try and save somewhere. I have a good fuel deal through my fathers engine shop with Sunoco race fuels and its still an arm and a leg for it. I like the idea of pump gas for convenience and for cost!!

But now your telling me that a pump gas cheetah cub will run lean an burn up?! SMFH!! That's the last thin I want...

Don't read so much into it. This was the possible outcome with the t-5's. the cub should have cpi's or shearers and has been proven to be a good running bike with these pipe combos.

It really has to do with the tuned length of the chamber. The t-5's have a shorter length that the cpi's and shearers and will cause heat to build up hotter at the exhaust port. Throw pump gas into the equation and you have a recipe for a possible meltdown. Domes also play a huge role in what a motor can do.

There really isn't a wrong answer to your question. We have offered up some pretty decent and dyno proven info. Build it how you want to and report back how it turns out.

Sorry for dragging this thread on an on about the same shit but like I said, I work crazy hours to pay for this crazy hobby that we're all addicted to and the last thing I want is a $1,500 set of ashtrays.

Millennium can always fix your ashtrays. 8 passes on some new plating and on the way back again for one of mine.
