Starwriter
I have an axle that I need to get rechromed. I hate how the axle gets sand blasted and isn't shiny anymore. Has anybody tried having an axle industrial hard chromed, for a more durable finish?
trickedcarbine
Hard chrome would be the way to go if you have the cash to foot it.
nihilism
Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure hard chrome has more of a dull look to begin with. It might defeat the purpose if the existing chrome is only sandblasted.
Starwriter
Well, it turns out both of you guys are right. I talked to my chrome guy today. Hard chrome will be 2 or 3 times more expensive than regular chrome and it will be dull. Then it can be ground and polished to be almost as shiny as regular chrome. So for the cost, you can just have regular chrome done more often.
nihilism
Thanks for posting what you figured out. Its too bad that its not cost effective.
