Carb Help

Recommended Posts

I need some help. I have a 2003 banshee with twin k&n filters with the stock airbox cut out (I bought my bike that way used). I just bought some new t-6 pipes and installed them, I went ahead and rejetted using the dynojet kit and a 280 main jet as well as replaced the needles and set the clips at the 4th notch ( I ride at glamis). I also have a boost bottle installed. My bike is an absolute bear to get started and will not idle. When i am up and running it runs like a bat out of hell but when I stop it seems to want to stall. Also when I rev the engine it seems to return to lower rpm's slower than it once did. Even after the bike is warmed up I must choke it in order to get the thing started, which is very frustrating since befroe I installed the pipes my bike would start first kick. Please give my some suggestions.

I hate that part about the banshees,,the twin carbs. My friend just got the single carb kit from trinity and withe the 35mm carb, steel braided throttle cable, clamp on k+n with outerwears, jet kit, and the intake setup, it all came to $490. Thats a really good deal. Don't mess with twin carbs and buy the single kit, it cleans up the engine , its easier to tune the engine, and its simple. It's definitely worth the money. Just go to trinityracing.com. I can't really help you with the twin carbs, im not very good with those. You know what carburetor means in french, "Don't f*ck with it" ;)

Hi,

What the bike is telling you is that, when it's hot and you need to choke it, it is not getting enough fuel and too much air. I would suspect that when it's cold out it is really hard to start. I would suggest that you go up a pilot size to 27.5 or 30. One other thing before you start jetting is to make sure the slides are in properly as that can cause problems as well. The cut away portion of the slide should be towards the rear. Also adjust your air screws located on the side of the carb to 2 turns out from snug. Then jet from there. Your mains might be slightly on the small side and you may want to go up a size or two.

I agree with wheatchex...i think your mains are too small. I would also check the pilots and make sure theyre not plugged up. Next I would go through the synchronizing process for the carbs and make sure theyre tuned correctly and equally. It tells you how to sync the carbs in the Clymer manual...if you dont have one...get one.

hey it almost sounds like you have an air leak that is where i would start first make sure all your clamps are tight and the carbs are properly seated in the intake boot. then make sure your carb caps are on tight that is where i would start and i don't think you are that far off on jetting you should probably be around a 320 or so but your best bet is to to a plug chop or check. Any other questions you can pm me if you are still having problems.

I my self ride at glamis. Here is what jetting I have on my bike with toomey t5s. The pilot is set at 35. The needle is raised 1 notch and my main is set at 360. Now on the main the best thing to do is a plug check. What you need to do is run the bike wide open for about 100 to 150 yards and shut the bike down { do not let it idle} take out a plug and look at it. It should start to get brown. If it is still white you are too lean and if it is really dark you are to fat.
