97 with 80k bore gold series fmf fatty powercore II with the mikuni carbs. The guy I bouht it from has some sort of jets in it idk but its setup more for top end. I'm wondering what jets to use for more low end power so I can power through mud holes I had the k&n cylinder air filters on it but I want to hit mud holes so i put the stock air box back on and drilled holes in the top. In fear of the open filters sucking in water and should I et an after market box and filter?

you dont jet for more top end or more bottom end, you jet for the amount of air your motor takes, by modding your bike, it will take more air, hence needing more gas.

 

is your motor ported ? what jets were in there ?

 

if its as stock port, with fmf and stock carbs and airbox. id start at 280 main (start at 300 if its still fucking freezing out), 27.5 pilot.   you'll prolly end up at around 270/260. 

 

first off, what jets were in there, and how did it ride with em.

Sorry I don't know what jets are in it. Is there a way to check like a number on one or something? but can tell you that it was sluggish with the low end power I can't really get the bike to stand up do to the lack of power. But once it built up speed and hit that power band it just left my buddys 650 in the dust. What is needed to get that power? I thought it was the jets?

the jet numbers are written on the jets. pull them out.

 

warm the bike up on old plugs,  put some new ones in, and go for a lil thrash. pull the plugs out and see what they are like,  if they are all black n damp, its too rich.

they should be a brownish colour.

 

yes correct jetting will make the bike run much better.

A banshee is not built for low end power, we just can approve upon whats there. Once in the powerband they are awesome. If you want low end power a four stroke is what your going to have to get or start boring like crazy!!!!

a bigger back sprocket will lower the gear ratio so the motor spins faster at slower speeds giving you the feel of more torque. 

 

try a front sprocket with 2 teeth less then whats on it now, should help you out. front sprockets are cheaper.
