SSDD
Let me start by saying "Hi", I joined not long ago but didn't see a place for newbies to introduce themselves. My Banshee is a mutt of sorts...it started out as an '87 but the previous owner chopped the frame all to crap to add A-arms. The arms installed are an older set of LSR arms. This project has been sitting since 2007 (we got stationed in England and I stored the 'shee in PA for 4 years). Now that we've been back in the states I've been wanting to finish it for the coming Summer. My current hiccup is the ball joints. This is the first time I've ever encountered ball joints for an ATV, do these things need pressed in? I took them out of the spindles to clean the filthy grease off the outside parts....they came out fairly easy too (a couple light taps with a rubber mallet). Now, they won't go back in all the way till they seat....so I'm guessing they need pressed in? Please excuse the nasty looking hub....I'm going to clean it thoroughly once I get wheels back on it. Also, aside from the missing boots on the ball joints does anything seem screwy with it? I'm asking because I am just putting these arms together the same way they came apart...I didn't initially build it so maybe the previous guy didn't do something right. If they do need pressed in is there a tool out there I can order? I've been away from Banshee's for quite awhile and my Clymer manual doesn't cover these arms (obviously). Before anyone asks this is a frame up rebuild....I've got the whole quad to finish so I'll likely be on here for the long haul and then some. SSDD
Ok, after doing some google searching (as well as some fleabay searching) it appears that the ball joints aren't intended to seat all the way in. Also, from what I'm reading the YFZ450 shocks I'll be running will be quite stiff....which makes me think I'd be better off letting these LSR arms go in favor of the Full Flights designed for the shocks I'm running. Nieskes
They thread into the aarm.
SSDD
So because you are running shitty garbage shock, you are going to get rid of your nice arms for cheaper ones? I will give $100 for the arms. YFZ450 shocks aren't "shitty garbage shocks" anymore than the blingstar front bumper is a nice looking bumper. Way to welcome me to the fold amigo. Total kick in the D man.... Also, please explain to me how Full Flight's are junk compared to old generation LSR arms. Oh....and for the record it's MY Banshee...and no I won't sell them for $100. Keyboard warrior. They thread into the aarm. Yes, I know. I'm talking about the ball joints going into the spindle itself....not threading into the arm. As you can see in the photo I already threaded them into the arm.
Nieskes
The nut pulls them tight, they are tapered.
SSDD
The nut pulls them tight, they are tapered. When I put them in the spindle and tightened them down I thought "Damn....should there be that much space between the joint and the spindle?". Afterwards I searched and found a thread on a totally different forum where a guy was doing a full frame up rebuild like me. He took a good pic of the front of the Banshee and it clearly showed that this gap that mine has. So, I guess once you get the ball joint in the spindle then just tighten it and put in a cotter pin? Job done? That's where I'm hung up at....is it really that simple? I'm expecting all kinds of difficult shite because that is generally how my life works 24/
toytech
They ate in all the way. Bit you need to get boots for them balljoints . The 450 shocks are to long for them arms.
hoppedupandcutdown
They don't go "all the way on" so your suspension has room to articulate, Don't ride anywhere without the boots. And I believe Zilla adds a certain "panache" to the site.
SSDD
They don't go "all the way on" so your suspension has room to articulate, Don't ride anywhere without the boots. And I believe Zilla adds a certain "panache" to the site. After I got to looking at it that is exactly what I was thinking. Yep, I'm going to order fresh boots or maybe stop into the local NAPA or AutoZone and see if they have any that'll work. Zilla is a douche, no one here likes him. He fits in very well on the HQ FB page. So don't mind him or take it to heart. Lol. Na, I won't take it to heart....gettin' too old for that jazz. They ate in all the way. Bit you need to get boots for them balljoints . The 450 shocks are to long for them arms. That's why I was thinking about getting the Full Flight arms designed for these shocks. Anyway ya want to look at it you either spend a bunch for high end arms....or you spend a bunch for high end shocks. I just dropped $3200 for parts for this beast all in one night....I'm afraid I've got to work with what I've got. I hear a FEW people complain about the 450 shocks....but tons more LOVE them. I wouldn't buy Elka or Fox even if I had the money. I'm not jumping it and the 450 shocks are light years beyond the OEM Banshee shock so it would appear I've got two options. Either someone has a decent set of Works Steelies they want to sell for cheap and I'll keep my LSR arms....or I sell the LSR arms, keep the 450 shocks and get the FF arms made for the 450s. Unless of course "Zilla" wants to Paypal me $2000 so I can order high end arms/shocks.
