A stroke change changes the pin location on the crank further from the centerline of the crank. So if u were to look at the crank from the side the pin that locates the rod is further away from center. So when it goes around it makes a bigger circle. That make any sense? On most stroker cranks you use longer thsn stock rods for the piston skirt to clear the crankwheels at bdc. anything over a 4 mill requires trenching the cases for clearance. over 10 requires epoxy so you dont trench all the way through. More room = more ability to place more air/fuel charge into. More air'fuel charge......more to go boom. Now the hp thing.....while it is a yes.....remember that hp is just a derived number creating another measurement number based upon your motors ability to create torque at certain rpms.
