marcusb
Ok so both of my exhaust pipes leak where it connects to the headers. There toomey t6s with silencers and ive changed the o rings atleast 5 times and still, its leaking that sticky black crap and its all over. Running 220s if that helps, and yes im going to change them during my rebuild right now to about 270s. Any idea why it may be leaking?? possum
gray rtv on the flanges. bolt them up, clean off outside where it squeezes out. then let dry over night. BAM.
monster
When I install pipes. I clean all the pipe connections with brake clean. Then I only put the RTV on the male side so it only squishes out to the outside and not the inside causing a restriction inside the pipe. I like Toyota black FIPG the best it holds up to heat, looks beater then red high temp RTV. Seems like it has urethane strength to it. http://www.oemtoyotascionparts.com/00295-00103
trickedcarbine
Not sure I agree much on the use of grey RTV. The red is good and that's what the 250r guys have proven for years. That Toyota stuff is Awesome! Tony Doukas put me up on that shit and I love it.
possum
ive used them all. never had a problem with any color rtv. but i like gray for some reason and i seem to always have some. lasts a long time anywhere i put it.
trickedcarbine
I guess it helps that it kinda blends in with the metal if it splooges out to. The R guys are always bitching about red jizz all over their chrome!
Tony Doukas Racing
The Toyota stuff is one of the best that I have found. It is called seal packing 103 FIPG I carry it in stock. As for the spooge. A little acetone or laquer thinner on a rag will clear it off before it dries.
joey83
Have you ever compared temp differences between grey and red? I've been told it's only about 50 degrees difference on max temp.
Uf21
Does the leak cause a loss of power?
