SlowerThanYou
We were hoping to make a racing trip to MI. (1,900 miles one way) in late Aug. These gas prices have me re-thinking the road trip. I've have always thought I wouldn't make a long trip if fuel was over $3.50 a gal. Does anyone else have a fuel price limit for big trips? rjdgriff
Depends on how much fun I haveabd how long I'm going to be at the destination if fuel is worth it... 1400 miles at $3.50 a gallon for 2 days, not really worth it. 1400 miles at $4.00 for 9+ days, I'm ok with that
n2otoofast4u
The fuel price thing is CRAZY... The only way we have been able to make the trips we have is having 6 people go and split the fuel. If you have an enclosed you can build a stacker in it fairly cheap and get all the bikes there. We are lucky enough to have access to a nice coach but have also all piled into a pickup as well. Its not fun, infact it sucks ass! For me, the biggest problem is that by the time I take 2 days off of work to drive (4 days total there and back) and the 3-4 days off to race (so now at a total of 7 days away from work) its not the fuel bill that gets to be dumb its the missed wages. We have looked into shipping the bikes and flying and it seems that your out of pocket is nearly the same and often times you only miss 3 days of work so you make some of that back. Im with you though! Id love to make a Dome race this year but FACK something has to give on these fuel prices!
Finch
Thats how i think about it i never really worry about fuel its more of every day i take off im missing out on wages

I get paid vacation, however I make WAY more when Im there than when Im not. And if I dont use it I get paid for it so to me I make zero everyday Im not there. WINDYCITYJOHN400
So let me get this straight. After spending thousands of dollars on building a drag bike the way you want it......your looking to drive 1900 miles one way, so you can enter a drag race where you just might get to make let's say maybe 12 passes over the weekend. With a time of roughly 4 seconds per run. So less than a minute of actual racing time......and now GAS PRICES are the cold water on your plan???? So if gas is $760 one way...your not going. But if it was more like $380...then your all in? I'm not knocking any of it. I'm just amused at where and why people finally draw a line in the sand. $750 for a billet drag axle....That's Ok. But $750 for gas money to go hang with friends and vacation for a weekend....Too much.
n2otoofast4u
A weekend or 3 days at the race track is not vacation. Its like working, only worse!
