04_blu_shee
Hell ive always put 3 heat cycles on mine just letting it idle and blip the throttle abit and after the heat cycles i ride the bike go through the gears maybe half throttle at times. After a tank of gas I get on it hard this being a stock cyl. motor...Yea i know im kind of skittish on my break ins Ive heard to many seisures not breaking in slowly Everybody has an opinion
lms1977
I just do 2 little heat cycles on it 10-15 minutes, check head and case nuts if all is good ride it like you want then.. just make sure you warm it up before you hammer on it I like to idle mine for a few minutes then putt putt for a few just to get heat in it before riding. camatv
if its built right. fire it up. check EVERYTHING coolant leaks, jetting etc. warm it up idle-ride around a tad THEN run it full throttle through every gear down a road. do that about 5 times recheck everything. seats the rings hard and they end up with way less blow by. motors also seem to last a lot longer... just what i do. my PERSONAL experience i started doing this years ago. old motors lasted about 1 season and seemed to loose compression. after taking apart it would be evident there was a lot of blow by around the piston rings. after doing the hard break ins the top ends would seem to last about 3 years and much less blow by. usually lost compression because rings themselves were just to damn thin. of course this is after i KNEW the piston wall clearance was proper and everythign else was working just fine. ATVridinMaNiAc
4 10 minute heat cycles of blipping the throttle and revving it not letting it maintain an rpm for more then 3 seconds, after 4th heatcycle check jug and head torque and everything else and then do a compression test. if all checks out start riding it. Hazzard Racing Customs
lol ok then thanks for the info guys looks like ill be getting this thing on the road soon then i fired it up let it run for a few giving it a few little revs let it get some good heat in the motor then checked all the head bolts all was good no leaks anywhere im gonna throw the chain on it tom. and hit the pavement for the first time hopefully i gotta go over the whole damn bike and double check everything but after that im gonna go piss the neighbors off LOL...... ATVridinMaNiAc
^ LOL. Yeah listen to this guy haha. 4, ten minute heat cycles? You're bound to blow the motor from over heating. Alright dipshit tell that to brandon at wildcard then. P.S. Fan and an IR heat gun works wonders.
ATVridinMaNiAc
Sounds good. I will call him tomorrow. Been a while since we chatted anyways. Maybe I will bring you up for a few laughs. Yea maybe you should, you can mention how you chuckled like a little girl at the way he recommends breaking in a new engine. Which i just did this weekend per his instructions and runs perfect both cyls good compression not even 1psi apart.
dirtydownunder
Retorque once, when the engine is dead cold. After you've had it to operating temp.
Uf21
I didn't know people broke their engines in. Never have, never been told too. This. When I bought my banshee new I also never broke the engine in. From the first kick it was full throttle all the way.

trickedcarbine
First heat cycle I just like to get it warm enough to feel the head and cyls start getting warm. Check everything and torque accordingly Second, start it get it warm. Blip the throttle till motor is making the pipes hot and you can barely touch the head. Third, start it. Blip till its warm. Rev it out a few times. Fourth give her hell! Ride it hard through all 6. Coast a bit and try to feel or listen for issues. Check torque, Assess jetting needs then ride it like ya stole it! I to find that if it's buil right a baby session isn't nessacary. Look at all the drag bikes out there. Hose guys don't have the option of running a tank of fuel through their bikes and they do just fine. And Steve, if your bike over heats from a 10 minute heat cycle you have issues. There are a lot of builders who reccomend 10 minute cycles. Especially in 4 strokes.
trickedcarbine
I have gone to the drags and seen guys warm up big motors for about 10 minutes
