How much break in time ?

Don't have video. I have seen a guy do a top end at the track on a big motor and he cycled it twice. The first time was about 10 mins. Might not have been actually been 10 mins, but it was way more then 5.

 

For the record I never said that's how you should do it. I just know that there are a few guys that do it that way and it seems to be fine for them.

Says the guy who tries to act all cool and tell me i dont know what im talking about when i simply tried to inform somebody of how i was told by brandon at wildcard racing how to break in an engine. And you basically laughed at how a well known sponsor on a site in which you "Moderate" suggests how to break in an engine. Pretty foolish if you ask me, bite your tongue. Your only defense is to what? say im retarded and avoid the actual issue like a high school kid lol...

 

I said basically word for word what brandon personally typed up on a paper how to break in an engine when i ordered from him, so call him and tell him hes retarded for how he suggests breaking in an engine i guess. :shrugani:

I have my method for breaking (banshee) engines in that works for me (its in line with all the site sponsors I have talked with) but….

 

Don’t some people break their motors in on the dyno?

 

I know when I bought my 502 crate motor it came with an actual dyno sheet that that exact motor ran before it was shipped to me. This example might not apply to 2 strokes but just though I would throw an example I know of.

I avoid idling as much as possible other than a few minutes to get enough heat to ride it. On and off the throttle for maybe 30 minutes and let it rip. I've seen a guy trash a rebuilt dozer just letting it idle. When we rebuild farm tractors we run them just enough to tune them and hook em up to a big load and run them as hard as we can.

 

Put a different head on a single cylinder 4 stroke bike over the weekend and it looked excellent on a motor that gets ran extremely hard, full throttle for miles at a time.

 

Proper jetting is going to make a bigger difference than any break in procedure or type of oil you run.

On the drag bikes I run 2 heat cycles on gas with No water in radiator. Let it get stone cold between cycles. The run 1 with water in it to check for water leaks. I like another on alky also. I agree that when guys change out cylinders at the track they only heat it up once or twice. And you can idle a drag motor for 10 minutes and not get hot. Not saying that that is the best for longevity, but you can run a full pass after 1 heat cycle.
