Basicorpse Posted October 18, 2003 Report Posted October 18, 2003 I just bought a 2001 banshee and it idles fine when cold but after it warms up it wont idle without me holding down the thumb throttle. I think that the tors system has been removed along with the parking brake. Also the snorkle on the air box has been removed as well. Does anyone know what could be wrong? Quote
Basicorpse Posted October 18, 2003 Author Report Posted October 18, 2003 Here are some pics of the carbs; im not sure if they are aftermarket or not. They are mikuni brand carbs. Quote
bignasty1 Posted October 18, 2003 Report Posted October 18, 2003 thos are stockers but i dont know the answer to your actuall question. they just have the tors removed and the idle kit installed. Quote
Fireman-hott Posted October 18, 2003 Report Posted October 18, 2003 You need to let it warm up to where it wont stay running. Once there adjust your idle screws till it will idle fine without you holding the throttle. You should adjust your idle when the bike is warmed up. Quote
Basicorpse Posted October 18, 2003 Author Report Posted October 18, 2003 I am a new owner and dont know how to adjust the idle. How would i go about doing this? Quote
bignasty1 Posted October 18, 2003 Report Posted October 18, 2003 turn the big golden srews on the side of the carbs in about a quarter turn at a time till your idlen back to normal. Quote
Banchetta Posted October 19, 2003 Report Posted October 19, 2003 It should idle warm if it idles cold though. Adjust the air screws to the right sides. The little brass screw closer to the intake boot. Screw them out a little, maybe a .5 turn or even a full turn. Do this to both carbs and that'll lean out the idle circuit a little. Quote
Basicorpse Posted October 21, 2003 Author Report Posted October 21, 2003 Should I have two idle adjust screws? I only have one on the left carb. Im not sure if the tors removal kit only requires you have one idle adjust screw. Quote
Banchetta Posted October 22, 2003 Report Posted October 22, 2003 The little air screws are on the left sides of the carbs facing the atv from the back. The idle screws are on the outsides of the carbs, so the left carb will have both screws on the same side, but the right carb will have the air screw on the left and idle screw on the right......Hope that didn't confuse you...Right?!!! Basicorpse Posted October 22, 2003 Author Report Posted October 22, 2003 No not at all. Actually it was quite helpful thanks! I just assumed the idle screw for the left carb would be in the same place as it is on the right carb, next to the air screw. I just won a set of t5s and fmf silencers off ebay for $90. What jet size should I start out with at an elevation of 1000 feet. I also have the stock airbox with the snorkle removed. Quote

If you can take the lid off, or cut the end of the lid about 1.5" right behind the clips so you still have all four clips to hold the cover on, then I'd start w/ 320 mains.... Quote
Basicorpse Posted October 22, 2003 Author Report Posted October 22, 2003 Thanks. I just checked the right carb and there is no idle screw on the left or right side of it. Where could I get a new one from? Is it really that big of a deal to go without it? Quote
00BANSHEE Posted October 22, 2003 Report Posted October 22, 2003 Your picture up top shows the left carb w/ the idle screw on the left side in the center of the carb. Quote
Basicorpse Posted October 22, 2003 Author Report Posted October 22, 2003 Sorry I meant I cant find the idle screw for the right carb. Quote
00BANSHEE Posted October 22, 2003 Report Posted October 22, 2003 I would bet it is on the inside of the right carb. (between the 2 carbs) If there is not one I believe your needle would drop down to far. Can you post a pic of both sides of your right hand side carb? Maybe we can help you from there. Quote
