Anthony133
Basically heres what happened: idiot i was riding with sunk his quad and was getting hypothermia. went back home, switched from bike to banshee. cold weather, barely warmed it up and took off with a heavy load of two people. I know it was a bad choice but someones life was possibly in danger. came home and it wouldn't shift into N. It would go straight from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 1st. then me getting mad, i slammed down shifter and not it doesn't shift at all, just has alot of play in the shifter. Before i rip it all apart, any idea what broke? (besides my common sense)
hoppedupandcutdown
You probably broke the eccentric screw off. easy fix
Larry's Shee
I would check external shift mechinisium under clutch cover first. Could have bent shift shaft, jacked the pawl, follower, star. Worst case might have bent shift fork, Most Banshees aren't known for finding neutral easy. Jereme6655
pull the clutch cover off.....if all is good in there......then you gonna have to split the cases.....which isn't that bad seeing as you can split the banshee cases to access the trans by flipping it over and removing the lower case. There aren't a lot of bikes out there that you can split the cases without taking the full top end off....

I just got done fixing my friends bike that did the EXACT same thing. The pawl on the shift shaft was the loosest one I have ever seen. A new shift shaft and a new eccentric screw fixed it right up, we threw in a modded star also. While you are in there check the kick idler gear bushing and clutch basket bushings and maybe a water pump impeller.
blowit
I agree with above. Sounds like either the eccentric bolt broke off or the shift claw slipped off the shift star. Either way, it does not sound like anything too serious....yet... Our billet shift star is made with longer drive pins so the claw cannot slip off the shift star. However, you still need to make sure everything else is in working order and determine what really happened. No deduction on "give a shit" points for flogging your Banshee when a life is on the line. I agree whole heartedly on this one. I am one who takes pride in my bike and building the motor....im the kind of guy that split my motor 2 times AFTER assembling it cause I wasn't satisfied that I had it together the way I wanted it. But when a life is on the line, my bike will get the beating of a lifetime to help ensure the saving of a life. Hell I say you GET bonus points for ridin it hard when a life could have been at risk....
