BeeCanBanshee
Had my frame pc'd and want to male sure I have my ground contact areas clean anyone know off the top of there head? Does the coil ground through the mounting bracket? Only thing I have mounted so far.
locogato11283
I like bare metal on my coil mounting brackets. Other than that, you can essentially ground anywhere. Just make sure it's bare metal.
hoppedupandcutdown
And bare metal to mount the voltage regulator.(I think anyway, can't hurt)
special06shee
X2 bare metal on coil and regulator

blowit
Another warning, make GD SURE that your engine mounts ground properly to the chassis. Remember this, the ignition source coil and lighting coil reference ground from the engine. If the engine does not have continuity with the chassis, you can ground components till the cows start singing and it won't matter because that ground reference does not make it back to the engine. BeeCanBanshee
Ok so you mean make sure the front and back mounts are clean where they touch the frame? I don't have the dog bone looking mounts. And I am not running lights.
J-Madd
No ground is necessary in the ignition as long as all black wires are connected. Not sure about lighting. No sense in grinding pc off to mount the coil. I have zip-tied coils to the frame with no issues.
BeeCanBanshee
Well I already sanded the coil mounting area but just enough for the coil to contact. I'm worried about the above said engine mounts need to be in good contact cause I think the sanded off powder there would be noticeable. J-Madd
Don't worry about it. The black wire that runs out of your stator plug IS the ground.
locogato11283
Don't worry about it. The black wire that runs out of your stator plug IS the ground. I've heard varying opinions on this. Personally, I like to have several grounding points in case one fails.

J-Madd
It's not needed. It may be a coincidence that all my bikes are wired that way, or that I got that idea from Jason Menz who is one of the smartest drag racers in the sport. I know that they have grounds factory but unless you're running pvl (which sucks) you don't have to have them. If you do want to make a solid ground from the motor, just run a wire from the motor to th frame (as I have done on pvl equipped motors). locogato11283
I think I'll take my chances with a couple ground over no grounds. It's not like they're hard to install.
