joewest
Titles says it all. I can get the elkas for about 80 bucks more. Are they worth it?
So Cal Suspension
Go with the elkas. Are you going to be able to tell the difference between the Elka and Works ride quality? No. The reason I say go with Elkas, is because overall their quality of materials, and quality of workmanship is hand over fist better than Works. That's not to say that Works aren't a great shock, because I recommend them to a lot of people who are in the market for new shocks. With the Elkas, you will get a greater amount of time between services than you will with the Works. Elkas stand up to wet environments better than works shocks, due to the type of seals that Elka uses in their seal head. Again, Works are good shocks all around, but Elka is simply better. Elka seal tolerances are tighter than Works shocks. Elkas mounts use heims rather than bushings. Elkas use a 5/8" shaft, where Works uses 1/2" shaft on MOST shocks. It's not very often I replace shafts on Elka shocks, but I seem to replace Works shafts frequently. Works seals are a vulcanized seal in a steel casing that can rust out in wet environments leading to leakage. One of the only real downsides to Elka shocks, is parts are sometimes twice as expensive as Works shocks, but you replace them less often. I say for an $80 price difference, in the long run, the elkas will pay for themselves.
