BeeCanBanshee
Is there any balancing involved when welding the crank? Was going to have a well known local machine shop weld mine for me. Just want to make sure. I know a lot of you will say to send it out but honestly I'm tired of waiting on parts and sending stuff out. And it seems to me that any master machinist/welder could do this. And it would be nice to have a local shop I can take my stuff to.
sheerider11
It must be true. I got my oem crank welded by Jeff at fast. Called me twice the same day to let me know he got it, and then to let me know he's sending it back out. He called back like a week later to see how the crank was and how the rebuild was going
BeeCanBanshee
Wow that's a quick turn around.Maybe ill give him a call. How is a crank trued? Just makeing sure the web and pin are flush when being welded?
sheerider11
No true 180 degrees. There just pressed, so really they can become all out of whack without you knowing. So now your out of balance and out of time out of phase. So you can really tear shit up by letting a crank go. So leave it up to a pro to true it and then weld it
BeeCanBanshee
Sounds good I always thought it was just welded up.
Jereme6655
when I had my jugs ported and what-not through Jeff I also had my crank welded. His shop guy called me to let me know they received my stuff and to expect a call from jeff the next day so jeff could go over again what he thought I was wanting for porting. it was about 45 minutes later when jeff called to chat about the port and what the over all effect was that I was looking for. He also offered me the chance to get the crank shipped out immediately so I could build the lower end, while I waited the couple of days for my jugs to get bored and ported. Then he asked me to give him a call back when I received everything in the mail because he wanted to go over start up procedures and jetting and everything like that. A+ for service everytime ive dealt with Jeff.

trickedcarbine
If the crank is new in the box and you trust it, have it welded locally. But if it were me I'd let a pro sort it out and weld it. No need for balancing these little cranks but there are some shops that do offer the service. It is usually for the larger stroke cranks. I also think some of the guys in the RZ crowd are balancing their cranks to. But for a typical dune/drag/trail bike it's not nesaccary. trickedcarbine
Order your bearings from TDR. You an have two maxloads for less then just replacing the OEM junk
