banlee
My banshee had a leak in the seal behind the stator... Tore it apart and replaced all the seals. Did a leak down test and that seal is still leaking... Any ideas? It's not a nick in the shaft because I spun the crank and it was still leaking out the same spot. Did I just get another bad/defective seal? Did I put it on wrong? Anything will help. Thanks in advance.
Pastrykiller
Look for the grooves in the case halves and line your seal up with that. Also make sure the side with the spring is facing out. That should make that thing seal up. Clean off the collar that sides in there. banlee
Yea when I sprayed soapy water on it, it looks like it's coming from the inside of the seal that touches the crank. Must have not cleaned it well enough.
KozyHeat
Are you sure its not a nick/gouge in the cranks shaft? Like the previous owner used a screw or something to remove the seal and it rubbed on the mating surface? Just because you spin the crank doesn't mean it will improve because of that. Couldn't the nick/scratch hurt the sealing surface of the inner seal? when you replace the seal, see if you can see a scratch or gouge again and try to sand it out of the crank sealing surface. Really high grit. I've scratched a crank before and I did that with it and it held up. Just so you know a Seal behind the stator on a banshee is called a Crank Seal I think. So maybe use that as a keyword for searching.

banlee
Yea I just used eBay ones. I'll get nicer ones this time. I know it's not the crank because I sprayed soapy water on it and it bubbled from the same spot as I spun the crank. But I will look it over just incase. Larry's Shee
Check the shaft furthet out from seal area, might be small burr and you nicked it, or might have nicked it on the threads.

tsharktim
From personal experience it is not worth the few bucks you save on the cheap ebay seal kits. I lost a crank, case, head and a 2 month old top end to a seal kit I got off ebay. I saved 10 bucks to spend 900 two months later.

trickedcarbine
Make sure to install the seal with grease both on the inner and outer mating surfaces. This helps both sealing and Instaling with out having to shove and force the seal in abusively
