What's up fellas I'm new to the banshee community with my first banshee I bought yesterday it's an 05 I'm 100% on all the work that's done they told me it had slight port work and that's it.... I have a fe questions hopefully you guys can point me in the right direction... there is no filters or box on the carbs they only rode the bike in the street I want to trail ride this bike and go through some mud (I know there not greatest mudding bikes but I've always wanted on)

Now for my questions

-what's gonna be the best set up for my filters ??

- is the clutch hard to change ? Can I do it myself?

They also told me second gear might be bad how could I be positive ? And how much could that cost me ? Do I need a gear or the whole trans? SORRY. For all the newb questions but I wanna start off on the right foot so I dnt F$&k shit up lol thanks in advance for the help and input !!!

Troyzstang thanks and yea I've had a 400ex and raptor but I know banshees are a whole different world and I've done small things like change the carrier bearing on my raptor and carb cleaning on the 400 but that's about it...and yea I'm deff gonna look into a manual

You can download a free service manual in the Technical info section of this forum. Its not as nice as having a book in your hand, but it is way,way better than not having one. The clutch is no problem, just follow procedure when installing the new one as described in the manual step by step. I would run the air box if I were planning on riding through mud and water.

Ok cool.

You're right Banshees are different. They are one of the easiest bikes to work on :)

The clutch will be a breeze for you. Second gear replacement not so much. Get the book and spend some time looking here.

One tip for you too.

Do your detailed repair search's though Google and it will direct you back here.

The search feature is a little funky. Also view the tech. threads. If you need help just ask.

I hope you have deep pockets. These bikes are expensive once you start building Hp. :)

Welcome.  Have you ridden the bike? Does it do anything odd going into 2nd gear?

I guess we first should have started with DO YOU KNOW WHAT THE JETTING CURRENTLY IS? If no then you should pull the carbs apart and look to see what main jets and pilot jets the bike has.......then give us your elevation that your riding at...and currently temp.  Reason for all this is because 2 strokes can lean out and melt down when the jetting is off. Cold weather and elevation definitely affect the jetting, along with pipes, filters, and port work.

Yes these bikes are WAY different. There hasn't been many bikes you can buy and make so much horsepower with for so little.  That being said.....your power is only decided on the amount of money you want to throw into it.

If your gonna be going through water and mud then you definitely want to find a stock air box.  While pods allow easier breathing and freeing up more power......the stock air box protects tons better.

2nd gear can be replaced without having to replace the entire transmission.  You have to split the cases to do that.....but banshee's have TOP &BOTTOM cases....not side/side cases.......which makes it super simple.

And on a side note...this forum is different.  F$&k is not a work. FUCK is a word. We aren't goin to bitch at you if you say shit, damn, fuck, wang, ball-bagger or any other concoction of words. However the site owner (tyler) seems to take note whenever GOAT and TYLER wind up in the same paragraph......

lmao FUCK IT then thanks fellas i live  south florida mostly 80 plus degrees out...and ive ridden it up and down the street but i havent wanted to ride it to much cuz it has no filters. as far as the jets id have to check them and as far as speed and hp for now im more than satisfied with its power i just want a clean running bike that starts one 1-2 kicks  :D for the gear i rode the bike and it felt a bit weird but i thought it was powerband but some dude i know that rides and works on them said second gear needed to be changed soon because when you pin the bike in second gear it goes and kinda lags a second and then takes off like if it slips or something but like i said ive never had one so i dnt know what to expect. what should i look for before i tear it down or send it to get changed ???

all i know the bike has is FMF gold series pipies ( which ive been told suck!?!?) " a little trail port " and thats all i have the bike at my buddies house im hoping to  snap some pics as soon as i get a day off to see if you guys can tell me a little more about my bike lol  thanks again for the help

well from what you just described is happening with 2nd gear.....its not a problem with 2nd gear.  No offense here, because I have no clue how close of a friend the guy who told you to change it is.....but for your wallet and your bikes well being.....tell him to get bent and shove off.  He sounds like he doesn't have a clue as to what is going on. I say that because the problem you describe is pointing towards either being a jetting issue (causing the powerband to be harder to accomblish) or a worn out clutch which is causing the bike to over-power the clutch.

Either way there are 2nd gears that can be bought that are made from billet. However the only people that have really needed them are drag guys who are making serious power......and a lot of that is due to them dropping the clutch on a motor that's already wound thru the rough and shocking all that power through 2nd.

FMF pipes aren't BAD....but they aren't the greatest......it really all depends what your looking to do.....

and also.....I would suggest that you stay on this forum. READ READ READ AND READ.  There is A TON of great knowledge on this site from a lot of the guys who have been around for a while.  Yeah.....we can get kinda rough on some people.....but its our way of having a little fun with each other....we mean no harm....really.

Things I would say I would concentrate on.......learn jetting, look how to make a leakdown tester and use it, buy the clymers manual and use it, buy a clutch tool (to hold clutch while you pull the nut off) and a flywheel puller.....only 2 specialty tools you need to tear entire bike apart, buy a torque wrench, and also buy a decent compression tester.

and don't be afraid to ask any questions.....but if you yourself think it is a realitively stupid easy question.....you may want to run it through google.....chances are its been covered on here.

Sounds like you have a slightly modified banshee. Do yourself a favor. DO NOT ride this bike until you have some type of air filter protection installed.

I would also recommend you check jetting as mentioned earlier. As for second gear issue. Your description of the issue doesn't match 2nd gear problems.

* Clean the bike until it looks good , then clean it some more :)

* pull the carbs to clean and check jetting

* Fresh fluids all around

* Fresh gas with quality premix

I've attached a picture of my bike when I bought it 8 month ago. Just a little inspiration for ya :)

Now post some pictures or we'll rip your arms off and shove them up your ass. :headbang:
