06BCBANSHEE
hey guys Been off HQ for a while, old comp and cell crapped out on me. anyways decided to start tearing apart the banshee. last ride it started to feel like it was running on 1 cylinder, and was smoking quit a bit out of the cylinder. checked compression im at 124& 122 psi. I took out the carbs and reed valves. one carb had quit a bit of dirt/sand in the top of it, also looks like i may have sucked a bit of dirt into the cylinder:( How bad is it if this happened?? could only see a few specs just past the reeds. also wondering what your thoughts are on my jetting i have 280 mains, 30pilot, air screw 1.5 turns. I am at sea level have FMF fatty's, K&N filter with power lid, +4 timing, billet water pump. im looking at gettng new reeds soon, so i know i will have to go up a size on the pilot jet, just wanna confirm this. also i ride sometimes at arond 1,000 ft . do i bump up the main jet a size for the elevation? thanks guys , appreciate your input
BUILDER
If you are at sea level then you are running to big of a pilot for running a air box and a lid. I would drop down to either stock or a 27.5 at the most. Your main should be close and what works at sea level is going to work at 1,000 unless you are running it right on the edge of being to lean. I would guess your smoking and running like shit was just your carbs needing cleaned.
Larry's Shee
Are you going down in elevation? Which side is smoking more? Is smoke blue or whote? Does it smell different than mix oil?Why do you think you need to go up on pilot? What do you have now?
06BCBANSHEE
Thanks guys, ya from what I researched I thought maybe my pilot was a size too big. This is the first time I have ripped apart my carbs (noob I know) The only reason its like that is cause thats what it came with. The airbox im running s not stock. its the bottom part of the stock airbox with a K&N filter, and the Lid is a filter as well. (if that makes a difference) I also think it was just a dirty carb as well, it was smoking white smoke from the right cylinder i believe( dirtycarb side) so If I order some VForce 4, should i keep my pilot at 30 or go down to a 27.5? or go up to 32.5? I read that they need to go up 1 size on the pilot, but i think as of now im running a size too big? ill be getting some 28 pwk eventually , but for now i wanna start with the reeds. thanks guys!!!!! Jereme6655
your 280 main should ROUGHLY be alright.....good starting point on the main at least. and the pilot should be running around a 27.5 (your fmf pipes seem to really like 27.5) is getting dirt in your motor bad? HELL ya its terrible....however if your compression is at 122 and 124.....that's not bad at all. These things usually wind up around 125psi per side when they've gotten a fresh rebuild. I thought the 30 was a little too big, kinda bogs from starting to 1/4 throttle. But if I get some new reeds im supposed to bump up the pilot. so the 30 should be a good size, right? or should i maybe order the 27.5? 06BCBANSHEE
hey guys just an update. seems like the dirty carbs was the problem. there was alot of shit in them. seems to be running good, revs up nice and seems to be normal. cant really tell till tommoro when i take it for a ride ( live in townhouses) only problem i had was i bent one of the needles on the cap, wasnt too bad, managed to straighten it out pretty good, tho. is that a huge problem? slides work fine. also ordered some vforce 4, should i still go down to a 27.5 pilot? or keep the 30? thanks guys!!!!! so happy to have her running again
bluebanshee98
from what i have read on here you usually go up one size on the pilot with the 4's from what you currently should be running. try the 30 thats in there and see how it feels. its not hard to swap out a pilot jet. i ran 27.5 pilot when i had stock motor and fmfs with lid off
06BCBANSHEE
ya i ordered 27.5 and the 32.5 just in case. It runs great right now, at 0-1/4 throttle kinda seems like it gurgles a bit. So I think a 27.5 would prob be my best choice. But since im getting new reeds ill stick with the 30, then do a plug chop. thanks guys appreciate the info. ill be posting my stage 2 LT elkas with external reservoir soon as well. asking $800 paid just over $1200. they are 16 1/2'' eye to eye. I have them on eyeball engineering +2+1 A arms. My cousin can get me a deal on some stage 5's so I figured I would try to upgrade. great shocks in great shape, they have about 10 rides on them. set up for 185-200 LBs intermediate trails/mx
