SlowerThanYou Posted January 11, 2013 Report Posted January 11, 2013 There is no "right" answer for this kind of question, too many variables (rider weight, chassis weight, tires, track conditions, engine tune, etc. etc.). The only way to find the correct gearing is to start with something and fine tune from there. You want to be at the top of fifth gear when you cross the finish line. Bigboy is giving out some good advice, but I'm going to give a different perspective to both of his posts. We only use 1-4 in the 300' & we are well into the top of 4th gear before the finish line. We do the same thing when running 1/8 mile & 1/4 mile. Just remember, if you're tuning for 300' specifically, don't bother with 6th gear, tune for the top of 5th at the finish line. If you're leaving in first, use it only to get you moving then immediately shift to second. We use a 1st gear launch and shift around the 60' mark. It works for us with a low 1.30 60' with a stock frame, small gas motor & 210+ rider. Two different ways to attack the situation. Quote
