thekevin
My bike specs are in my sig and below is a pic of what I am starting with. I just swapped out the heavy ass DG chrome front and rear bumpers for some aluminum AC ones I bought from Hazzard today. I also took off the 19s and 18s and went with some 6ply GBC Xrexs in 21 and 20 and now back to factory gearing. It definately made it quite a bit milder, I may actually go back down a size on the front gear. My big question is about my air filter setup. Right now I have the UNI pods and I am pretty sure that I am going to try and find a factory box and run a pro flow single k&n setup with no lid. For trail riding what are the pro's and cons of running that setup vs. my pods. The reason I am wanting to do it is for protection from the elements because usually when done riding everything under there is covered in mud. I was hoping that the new setup would actually perform a little better in the woods than what I have right now.

rjdgriff
I also just run pods on the trails. If you are looking at getting wet and muddy put your outerwears on. Pods are the way to go Good shock are a huge help
thekevin
Do those outerwears not get caked up with stuff and start restricting air flow. As far as front shocks go I am planning on yfz450 shocks something in the next few months.

IceAlmeida
i also like to give my outwear a spray of water repellent like for shoes and coats after i clean and oil the filter.
Finch
dont use yfz shocks..
IceAlmeida
i use yfz shocks, spindles, hubs, tie rods, front brakes and i like all of them for how cheap i got it for. its gonna hold me off from buying a front suspension atleast so i can waste it on other shit
thekevin
The price is definitely biggest thing pointing me in that direction. What is a decent set of works or elkas gonna cost me. ECshee
you could find a set of dual or triples in the 300-400 range if you look around. throw up a wanted ad and im sure someone will respond, its not like works are hard to come by. elkas will most likely run you more. i was running pods and wound up switching to a stock airbox w/ no lid, the pro flow adpater and a single K&N cone and it does well. i still need to run a prefilter but i get much better protection from the bottom half of the air box. In this aspect you can 1. go for a SLIGHT performance increase with the pods and sacrifice protection...or 2. still get that performance increase, and not have to worry about inhaling water... dirtydownunder
you need suspension for sure !!. if you do go through puddles alot maybe think of getting an airbox or making one. i run the uni filters with the dual stage.
thekevin
It's not just puddles but there are creek crossings everywhere I ride. I don't plan on doing much fast riding for the next 30 or 45 days until the weather gets better so I may start shopping for some suspension parts. Jereme6655
Pods don't do too well being flung with water/mud. They give better performance.....but less protection. Upgrade those shocks and I guarantee you'll love it. Well worth the money. And if you look around you can find some good deals on works shocks.....I think I paid 140 for my tripple$ rates and matt from socal rebuilt em. I can't remember his price but it was DEFINITELY affordable. Also take those shock covers off.....they do nothing but hold moisture and damage your shocks.
