2wheelturned4
Im just after some info on the pros and cons of each piston type. I need 68mm pistons for my rebuild and am looking at both cast and forged vitos pistons. Is the extra $60 a piston for forged worth it on a trail and occasional dune ridden banshee? This bike will get ridden max once a month... And im running the 68mm bore athena.. Cheers for any help
Wheelman Chassis
id go forged for sure,if you do go cast pay close attention to piston to wall clearance. chris
jbooker82
Cheap builds dont last as long. Would you rather do it twice and pay twice or do it once. I would skip vito's pistons and go with Wiesco's.
Surfrjag
Correct me if im wrong but i think weisco makes the vitos forged piston. For your application there would be no problems with a cast piston but as stated your piston wall clearance must be rigjt or you could run into serious problems. 2wheelturned4
serious problems like broken intake skirts! i found that after 4 hours on the athena cast pistons... so forged are a lot more reliable i gather? are the vitos really that bad? 2wheelturned4
Yeah i wasnt 100% sure it was just a cast piston or that it was just an athena cast piston that made it shit! Are the vitos forged shit? Or the wsm? They are roughly $100 cheaper a set for me at the moment and wifey is starting to keep a close eye on how much this bike is costing... BANSHEE HP
vitos forged 68mm pistons are fine
camatv
cast lasts longer as long as piston to wall clearance is good and tight. fordged last longer for higher rpm motors and motors that are stressed more... you could look at it like one is harder but more prone to breakage due to the hardness the other is softer but more resilent to abuse and bad macnine clearances.. i have seen OEM cast pistons last for 6 years..... trickedcarbine
Ditch the Athena domes! Also TDR has the deals on WSM and I used them in my big bore motor with great success. The Vito's are fine as well. Just make sure you go forged!
