Can a plugged Pilot cause a meltdown?

Been running a banshee with stock carbs,  This is what I have jetting 290s pilot 25.  FMF Gold series pipes, boost bottle, roost boost.  Stock air box, K and N Filter.  Snorkle removed.  No holes in the box.  Been running this set up for years.  Last trip out, melted down left piston.  some damage to right side also.  Been trying to figure out what went wrong.  Carb was clean, no debries.  No air boot leaks.  The only thing I found was a plugged pilot jet.  Can a plugged pilot cause a meltdown at high load.  Running wide open in a wash?

I found the jetting guide that gives a good look or idea as to what jetting I should be running.  Again been running this engine for many years.  Any comments would be appreciated.  Any suggestions on jetting changes?

Thanks

David

if you where not getting a run away idle no it shouldn't of caused your melt down

It could of been part of the cause it finally quit on you as it does have a bleed effect through out the range.

Do a leak down test I bet you got some other issues that where the main cause.

What?

The pilot feeds fuel at WOT, along with the max fuel it can flow your also getting the main jet too. So if the pilot is plugged...your missing fuel on your top end jetting. That would cause a burn down for sure.

Bad gas can cause it too if the motor was detonating.

But....were the pilots on BOTH carbs clogged? Because your not going to burn down both pistons if only one pilot is clogged.

Sounds like you have an issue that might be bigger than just a clogged jet.
