Mcaff Posted December 4, 2012 Report Share Posted December 4, 2012 Ok so recently done a trans oil change however it sat for 2 weeks with no oil in it as I had to re tapp the hole and put a bigger plug in as I stripped the sump. Also I have just fitted ASV levers, so had the quad out yesterday in the snow and I noticed it was really hard to get into second and then again back down to first.. Then when working back up the gears it will not go passed 2nd and won't go into 3rd upwards. It has always been quite stiff to get through the gears since I've had it but just seems now it won't budge. Any ideas before I start to strip it down and have someone look at it. Jereme6655 Posted December 4, 2012 Report Share Posted December 4, 2012 check to make sure your clutch cable is adjusted right and actually disengaging the clutch. check to make sure your ecentric screw is adjusted correctly. also when riding in the witner your trans will naturally be tighter as the oil in your trans is much thicker......which leads to slower shifts.... Mcaff Posted December 4, 2012 Author Report Share Posted December 4, 2012 seems like its solid, cant get the selector to go passed second, and even getting it into 1st neutral and 2nd is a bit of a task itself, makes me think its not the clutch as i should be able to change through the gears without it engaged? sheerider11 Posted December 4, 2012 Report Share Posted December 4, 2012 My bike has never shifted right. I'm thinking of sending out the whole motor to have the trans cut and have it gone through. camatv Posted December 4, 2012 Report Share Posted December 4, 2012 unless you actually fix the real problem they will never shift worth a crap. untill you get the entire trans out and fix whatever is wrong with it and get it to factory specs THEN modifiy it so that it actually works ( what i call a stock modified transmission) it will never work for crap.' also making sure al the gears have the bushings int he right spots and not dragging. the shafts themselves dont have wear and are not causing a drag. all these things i have seen over and over and after being fixed and modified the banshee trans actually works quite well. higher HP and harder riding make these issues worse. the problem you are describing sounds more like a stuck shift shaft. the end of the pawl turns sideways and they will stick on the end of the star. then they will shift up one gear and down one gear. stuck in 2 gears basically. to fix this its best to replace the shift shaft, adjustment stud and adjustment spring. sometimes it damages the shift star also.
