shee4speed
hey guys, been awhile since I've posted. I was checking compression and found to be a little low. I found the bottom rings stuck on both pistons. Any reason for this? Should i yank the rings and just get new ones? Cylinders look good still. n2otoofast4u
If its been sitting for a long time this isnt that uncommon. If it were me Id put new rings in simply because they are cheap. BUT if you can get them out without bending or distorting them yeah clean em up and put them back on. bansheesandrider
Rings are cheap. I would not reuse them, I have never put my cylinders back on with used rings. You want maximum performance, and the way to get there is with the best cylinder seal possible!
bikerjon
hone and re ring. cheap and easy and will get great performance.
shee4speed
I took the jugs and had them honed. I could not get the ring out of one piston. New pistons etc. Now I need to get her together for glamis next week. I wish I knew what caused this. Oil? n2otoofast4u
Wait... Were they stuck because the piston tried to sieze in the motor or they were stuck because of build up or deposits? You got a picture?
shee4speed
I can take one when I get home. I don't think the piston was going to stick, and there's really no build up.
Paulie B
In my experience caster based oils tend to do this the most. That and overheating regular oil. This also tends to happen in winter or a motor that has sat without running for a while. Once you get the rings unstuck use a cut old ring to clean the channel. shee4speed
Screw it, it says the photos too big. I got new pistons, rings, whole top and honed out ready to go to put it back together and I will ditch the Klotz I've been using and go back to 927. Never had trouble till I switched oil.
