Jraz
So 2 of my stator bolts worked themselves out. Only couple hous in a rebuild. The flywheel rub it pretty good. I lost spark. Since then I've replaced the atartor and ignition coil. Could that have fryed my cdi? Wire harness? I'm at a loss. Any suggestions would help. sheerider11
Did you destroy the pick up on the thing? How is the pick up gap?
Jraz
I didn't even check it. I just bought a new one. I don't have a resistance tester either. It was raining also. It just died and that was it. I've rebuilt several two strokes but not real savy with electrical. Carpenter by trade.
IceAlmeida
I would check the pickup coil for damage and check your gap from the flywheel raised node to pickup ..... also use locktite on all those stator and timing plate screws .... YelaBanshee
If you have a multi meter you can always volt test it from that stator and go farther till you find the area
Jraz
So I replaced the stator with a new one. I have an older clymer and it doesn't tell me what the gap is supposed to be. I've checked just about everything. Got resistance on stator, ignition coil, tors is removed. Still no spark. How would u even adjust the pick up. Jraz
The pick up never got damaged. Thing just died. It was raining a bit when it happened.
Paul M
the mount for the pick up coil is slotted ! not sure what the official gap is , I always did mine with a match book lol
Jraz
Ok set my gap at .018". It sparks but won't start. Kinda wants too, but then it backfires. ???
Jraz
I also put a new ignition coil in. Would that make it backfire if it was bad?
sheerider11
Do you have a timing plate?
Paul M
If its back firing your getting spark ! check all your connections real good !
sheerider11
If you sheared a flywheel key that will throw off your timing and make the bike pop and back fire
Jraz
No adjustable timing plate. The woodruff key has not been sheered. Al little worn but still good. I went over connections. It wants to start so bad and then pop, pow. ( backfire)
YelaBanshee
You should run through the connections and check the voltage while you are kicking it over to make sure you have enough spark
