turbowrenchhead
I am planning on replacing the 25 year old wire harness on my 87. I notice that not all years have the same wire harness or CDI's. Are there any CDI's available that have a veritable progressive timing advance with rpm increase? What are the better stock set-ups? If I buy an 06 wire harness what year CDI's are compatible with it? Does the stator have to be changed over to? Up to what year harness would be the same as my 87's? Finch
lmao your offering up oem parts then asking questions like this? http://bansheehq.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=160486&pid=1405137&st=0entry1405137
turbowrenchhead
Its easier to ask the guys that already know what changes with what then to take several hours on a parts fiche to see what numbers have change and that still doesn't tell you what will interchange with what. Just because I don't know everything about everything doesn't mean I won't get you the right part shipped to you promptly.
Finch
you could search for some answers on the questions your asking.
turbowrenchhead
Found this after several searches. All years of Banshees have a 1 piece wiring harness and the various components plug into it. Wire harnesses are as follows:89-94, some say 87 &88 are in this group, others say they are different,95-96,97-2001, 2001-2006 in USA. CDI boxes:(87)89-94, 95-96, 97-2006. Stators:87-94, 95-2006. Voltage regulators and coils are the same for ALL years. Took a look on the parts fiche and a 2000 and 2001 wire harness are the same number. Back to 1997. Before 97 its discontinued and there are no part numbers on the fiche. Edited October 25, 2012 by turbowrenchhead

Before 97 its discontinued and there are no part numbers on the fiche. That looks word for word the info I posted in another thread awhile back,Except it is 2002-2006 on the wire harness. It could be my typo or yours, I don't know. Depending on the year, the light/run switch might have a different connector as does the key switch. The stator itself is the same for all years,BUT the plug on the end changed between 1994 and 1995.CDI boxes follow the wire harness breaks EXCEPT they are the same from 1997 to 2006, the wire harness changed then because Yamaha added brake lights to the bike. Some people claim different boxes have different timing curves but I can't verify this. Headlights will have different connectors to match the wire harness, but you can just get the pigtail coming out of the light housing and update your lights. By the way early lights have glass lenses(better) while late light are plastic(melts), I am not sure of the year they changed.
