When looking make sure its clean overall that says someone made an attempt to take care of it. You will know by looking at it what bikes a p.o.s and what isn't. You will also find many tutorials and others questions on the modification and repair forums. When looking at a bike for sale. Make sure it runs, Make sure the suspension is solid, Ask about engine work and who did it. You can look at a few things to see how the upkeep was in general. Was the gear oil changed regularly? Are the sprockets and chain fair? Are there any leaks? Basically you just don't want to buy a bike that needs a lot of parts. But I'm sure after you start working on it.. you won't be able to stop! No need to transplant another engine, plenty of scary upgrades to the engine if you wanted, more comp, porting, bigger carbs, stroked, different cylinders, serval, cub, cheetah, DM etc...plenty of info on this site too, just spend a few hours of reading and you'll be amazed. I know where an 04 is right now that needs a new top end I could pick up for a g and its in good shape!!!!! my bro and i even had an 02 given to us lately that had an exploded clutch basket! they asked how much it would cost to fix it, and just gave up on it...
