Buying a new Banshee

Hey all I am planning on picking up a 2001 unmolested banshee with just about stock everything. I'd like to know some stuff to look for when I go and check out the bike tomorrow. It needs a clutch and pipes and thats it. I'd really like to avoid buying a bike that will need rebuilding soon. What should I keep my eyes open for?

What do you mean it needs a clutch and pipes?

Yeah man dude sounds like he's bs'ing you. But you should go an check it out anyway. To see if your going to need a rebuild soon you can tell by the compression. If you dont have a compression meter or whatever its called then how many kicks it takes on a cold start. Ask him if he wont run it that day (even though its worth a try) and if he doesnt if it takes a bunch of kicks then its probably got low compression, You cant also tell by the way it sound and feels.... Heres an example of a banshee thats about to blow

Heres a pretty good running banshee with same pipes as the one your bout to go look at (sounds a lil boggy)...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M70a7EBdLcM&feature=related

You can tell how well its been taken care of too by the way it looks.... if its all dirty and just looks overall shitty then its probably shit.... Can you post some pics of the bike?

I'm going too look at it tomorrow. He says it starts first kick and everything is in great condition but the clutch thing swayed me a little bit. I wouldn't know why the clutch would be burned out but I guess ill see tomorrow. Is the clutch hard to replace anyways? And when I said unmolested I meant the motor has never been opened.

Yes the bike is on criagslist. He asking 2000 but I'm planning on right around 1800. Bikes around here are expensive because of the demand for them, specially banshees. I just would like to get a reliable banshee that will last me.

Just because a bike has mods doesn't mean it isn't reliable. Just cause a bike doesn't have mods doesn't mean it is reliable.

Ok

I could be wrong but it looks a little rough. From the pictures it almost looks like it's been pieced together. ( random parts)

The front tires are wore out and the back tires don't match. Just my quick observation.

I don't know your market but that bike would bring somewhere around $ 1,300 to $1,500 here.

Take a good look tomorrow.

Tell that guy to eat a dick, 1800 I better be able to ride that bike out of there with the front end pointed to the sky. So you know you need pipes and a clutch. We'll crunch numbers real quick. Pipes from here, 300 for a clean set, clutch (I imagine your on a budget) tusk is I think 60, coolant 10, trans fluid 10, what the fuck is your time worth?, clutch cover gasket 12.

So well say another 400. 1800+ 400= 2200. Obviously give or take a few bucks. I've seen awesome bikes go for that much. For a few hundred more you can get a really good runner.
