seat cover install

old put-put

Recommended Posts

Just got my new seat cover from Vj, having a little trouble getting the staples to go into the plastic. What does everyone else use(staples and staple gun) to attach the cover? I just bought a new electric staple gun, but barely goes into plastic and mashes the staple down and don't hold for shit. Any thoughts will be apreciated.

i got a knock off of that craftmans one. works great . but you really have to put alot of down force like stated above or' 'itll bounce out'' its a pain to push down hard and then squeeze the dam thing. its almost worth taking it to a pro and seeing the cost. also use the lil cardboard staple strip it helps not to rip the fabric / pleather..imo. goodluck

If you have a compressor get yourself one of these; http://www.amazon.com/Porter-Cable-US58-22-Gauge-C-Crown-Upholstery/dp/B00004SBC3

Just make sure you get the one that runs the right size staples, and don't forget to pick up a box of them when you get it. I found out the hard way not a whole lot of places (around my area at least) carry the right staples. Seriously though you absolutely will not be disappointed!! It makes doing seat covers a cake-walk, and it will at the very least cut your install time in half. I wrestled with the electric Craftsman staple gun I have for years so before one of the the last covers I did I decided to pick up an actual upholstery stapler, perfect seat cover every time in a fraction of the time! Winning!

Thanks for the replies, I'll check into some of these. I'm reluctant to spend a whole lot of money on a staple gun as I'll probably only use the damn thing this one time. I'm not wanting to spend more for the staple gun than I did for the cover, if you know what I mean, but may have to. I got a very nice seat cover and don't want it to look like crap when it's installed.

Yeah Troy, I really didn't know how to describe what I wanted to Jeff and he told me he thought he knew what I wanted. I was a bit concerned about what it would look like, not knowing exactly what I was getting. When I got it and opened it up I was very suprized, it looked pretty slick coudos to Jeff for knowing his shit! I got it on the bike, but don't want to ride it until I get better staple job. It really looks good on the machine, kinda sets off everything so far I'm very pleased with everything I have purchased from all of the site sponsors HJR, VJ'S, F.A.S.T., Chariot, all good stuff.

I've used electric and manual staplers And both can be a pain in the butt. The key is like everybody said to use plenty of pressure and also keep the stapler straight don't want it in any kind of an angle. Also make sure you got the right length staples. If you use too long of staples on the sides it'll poke out and eat the seatcover from the inside.

I'm using the 1/4" staples like what was in the old cover. I tried again today and things went alot better, must have been holding my mouth wrong yesterday. Idk what was wrong yesterday but the Arrow staples were just barely going into the plastic pan and would bend over and not hold shit, today they went in like they are supposed to.
