I've seen two within the 5 times i went to silver lake this season

There's a handful of full drag 450's that go out there regularly. Just because they weren't there when you were at the dunes doesn't mean they aren't around. Lots of fast 300ft drag Raptors and 450's out on the East coast.

Obviously there aren't as many drag 4 strokes as there are Banshees... But still. There's a lot out there...

I was just saying from what ive seen

I have to agree with Colby, were all on here cause we love the two stroke powerband, but the 4 pokes have a lot more torque which makes it therefore easier to put to the ground, just my opinion. When I ride by myself I ride my banshee when I go with a bunche of 4 pokes that's what I ride otherwise its not even fun cause I'm to fast they all have there place

Weight to power ratio and suspension and gearing and tires and traction all play a huge part in how each one will launch and accelerate... You could have all the power in the world with either of them but if your heavy or have shitty suspension and gearing set up or bad tires for what your doing your not going to do jack shit. You could have 20 more hp and still not win if your not set up properly for your hp. Rider size also makes a lot of difference. Fact, fat ppl go slower

Look at it this way.

YZ250 MX bike is 56 hp stock, YZ450F MX bike is 55 HP stock. If they were both equal and equally as fast then why do you not see 250 two strokes in professional MX races. They might be equally as fast on the top end but it is how, and how fast they get there that is drasticaly different. Look at it this way a MX race is repeated drag race from corner to corner and jump to jump.

A drag race is not about top speed, it is about having the fastest acceleration.

a 50hp 4stroke is going to be faster than a 50 hp 2 stroke if rider skill/weight are equal. 4 strokes get power to the ground much easier than the viloent tempered 2 strokes.

At this horsepower level, I would agree. However, the previous quoted "100hp" level is quite different. A YFZ 450 built to the tune of 100 hp will have a fairly wild powerband mimicking a 2 stroke in that the motor will not produce significant torque until the mid-upper rpm range.

As motor design goes, (and as previously stated) the banshee motor provides one powerstroke every 180 degrees vs a single 4 stroke at 720 degrees. In sand where the tires are already spinning it may not matter, but on asphault or where we desire the tire to hold traction, a smoother power delivery will provide more traction than an irratic powerful pulse to the tire. For instance, a small displacement 4 cylinder motorcycle feels much more "planted" when leaning heavy and on the throttle than a big twin. If you ever drive a ducati for instance, you'll feel each powerstroke bite into the ground (and may start a loss of traction).

Anyway, will all of this matter? Absolutely not. 100hp vs. 100hp the race will be determined by the operator (and how well he knows his machine) and the rest of the ATV's setup.

  • 2 weeks later...

A 787 rappy laid waste to ALMOST everthing my last time out. It took a 10mil and a snomo to take him out.

In my observations the 4 stroke comes off the line with a lower rpm, a butt load of torque, and did not spin.

All the banshees leave the line spin a lil and then catch up.

So besides the $$$$$ aspect, higher maintenance, and weight disadvantage,

I think a 100hp poker would beat a 100hp smoker

You guys are a bunch of clowns. You seriously think that a 100HP 4-stroke is faster than a 100HP Banshee?

Set up CAN NOT be the same. They're two different types of motors that require two totally different types of set ups.

Let's also think about something..

100HP 4-stroke = 700+ CCs

100HP 2-stroke = 421 Cub

I personally witnessed 421 Cubs and smaller motors BEATING on a Raptor on nitrous at the BHQ ride.

Now fucking sit here and tell me the 4-stroke is faster.

if you would have been at Sandfest, you would have seen much bigger than 421's being beat by Yfz's and Trx's
