WINDYCITYJOHN400
What is the hottest temp that your pipes will reach on pump gas? If you're real lean at WOT...at around 10,000RPM you might hit 1400 degrees. Then the pistons will flow out the tailpipe like liquid and the motor will lock up. Maybe you better be more specific about your question.
jbooker82
The hottest temp your going to find is under WOT after a really long straight away pass. They start to cool back down as soon as you let off, and I find it real hard to ride WOT and use in infered temp gun at the same time. Besides chrome is reflective so the gun isnt as accurate. Okay well doesnt it get the hottest at idle because no coolant or air is cooling it?
jbooker82
the pipes aren't liquid cooled, and there is more exhaust gases heating the pipes when the motor is under a load.
sheerider11
Okay well doesnt it get the hottest at idle because no coolant or air is cooling it? And the coolant never stops flowing. It'll take some time for the bike to over heat at just idle, unless of course your jetting/ lean or what ever is fucked up. But a simple test, let your bike idle for 20 minutes and touch the pipe, maybe not it'll be kind of hot. Now go rip for 20 minutes and touch the pipe, Fuck that. Simple shit, don't over think abs over complicate things.

jbooker82
I usually point the radiator in to the wind and let it idle when it hits around 225 or so. I will shut it down at 230-235 deg f. I normally dont see temps that high. Normal operating temp for me is 180 to 210 deg F. All these temps are measured with a liquid temp gauge right at the outlet on the cylinder head.
