EGT's on race fuel

I am wanting to try a little tuning with a digitron that I can get a killer deal on. I am running VP C12 race fuel and I am just wondering what temperature range I should be in to know I'm headed the right direction. Obviously there will be some variance but I'm just looking for a baseline target area.

Ive had a few different digitron's around through the years on all my sleds and junk and it all depends on the probe placement. If the location is not identical between the two cylinders....or 3, you will see different EGT's. Just the slightest difference in angle of the tip is going to alter your readings. No one can really tell you what your EGT's should be. I would read plugs and wash first. When you are happy with those, then see what your EGT's are at. That is your baseline. You can fine tune from there. EGT's will help you diagnose developing problems once you have your baseline set. You can find lean spots throughout the throttle range.

But In my experience the EGT's will always vary by 200ish degrees unless they are jetted separately. Read plugs and wash to get a baseline then you know what your egt's should be. In a perfect world they should be about 1050 on the bottom, 1150ish in the middle and 1200ish top end. Aluminum melts at 1350 roughly. Don't take these numbers and run with it as every motor is different and it really depends on your probe location.

IMO the most important area in jetting is not the main jet, but careful sellection of and needle, often its part throttle cruise that get dangerously lean.

If you dial it in to get 1250 on a 30 deg day, you will be piston shopping with that jetting when it drops into the teens

What model you looking at?

I'm pretty much on the same page as Savage. Great explanation on baseline.

Because probe placement has such an effect you should NEVER GO BY TEMP READINGS ALONE to tune. Get a baseline established.

I run alcohol on asphalt and use a DT54K. I agree with Savages general temp recomendations but I recently bought a single screen for my wifes gas bike and Digitron tech support quoted much higher temps for that. Since your going gas you might want to call them.

Hey thanks fellas, I'm Not exactly sure which model it is. There is 3 windows, 2 egt, water, and RPM. It is only $200 bucks from a local dude. I see cam has a few for sale to. Any one have any specifics on probe location, depth, angle? Maybe a a few photos?
