MarineNYC Posted September 16, 2012 Report Posted September 16, 2012 I'm looking into buying a single or double din DVD / navigation receiver For my Nissan Frontier. I don't know much about car stereos. I don't really need the navigation do to my phone having ita but I would like Bluetooth. What are the advantages of a double din opposed to a single DIN? What brands should I stay away from? I'm looking at buying used. So my budget is around 250 to 300 dollars. Better yet does anybody on the site have 1 for sale? Thank you for your help Quote

Thank you for your help stay away from Dual, jensen,JVC for sure.. any other the more popular brand such as Pioneer/Alpine are good for the money and you can find them for good prices used.. the only problem w/ the double DIN's is there pricier, and you cant really hide them like you can the single DIN's.. i personally think the double DIN's look cleaner, and you dont have to worry about the lifting motor going out, but they are more expensive.. you can find anything you want car audio related on ebay for a pretty good price! AirTractor Posted September 18, 2012 Report Posted September 18, 2012 A double din will look more 'factory.' I've had best quality/luck with Clarion head units. But pioneer and panasonic put out some pretty wild stuff. You doing subs, door speakers, and amp too? Quote
AKheathen Posted November 18, 2012 Report Posted November 18, 2012 pioneer went 10x downhill since the buy-out, yet you still cannot go real wrong with it. other brands, it depends. truth. anyways, a double din, or din and a half touchscreen, as mentioned, will look factory most times. this is a great advantage, since, nobody looking to steal a sterio, who knows the slightest bit, knows that factory heads are useless to steal. a second advantage, is if you have a column shifter, you don't have to worry about hitting it while opening/open (this is actually a bigger problem than you ay think) a 3rd benefit, is 90% of flip-out units are flimsy, and do not do well to any rough driving.
