first ride with new motor

Recommended Posts

well after a few long nights and hard work we got it done. after I almost took out the fence we decided the desert would be a better place for a test ride lol. I made It about a mile in and started heating up the motor it was a total bummer but life goes on now I'm looking for a overflow bottle and some in line coolers if anyone has those pm me a price and pics please. Id like to thank Dave5.0 and everyone for the parts and advice

Dont think we're lean. Plugs looked good and he barely rode it. I think the stock impeller is prob junk. Hopefully we get that replaced it'll clear a lot of the issues up. Been so long since I've messed with a bone stock bike, I forgot how crappy the cooling system is.

Are you sure you were overheating? Did you overfill the radiator or have a bad cap?

Bad cap is something I hadn't thought about. New ones are pretty cheap too.

We filled it then ran it. It spewed as expected. Then it would eventually spew again. If u run it cold with the cap off there's little to no movement in the radiator. Then after a while we'd get a big blast and we'd have to shut it off. Then you can here it percolating like its steaming. That's why I was thinking it needs an impeller. Thought about head gasket but it doesn't blow all the time. It'll build up then blow, then repeat. Like it gets hot. We let it cool, and try it again. We bled the screws on the jugs too but it didn't help.

yeah I use to ride my ported bike with just a billit impeller in Glamis. never had a problem with any type of overheating . did you actually check the impeller to make sure that it's not broken or sheered

Ya a smart guy woulda done that. But he didn't have a new one so I thought we'd give it a whirl. He was wantin to ride so I took a shot. I spun everything from the backside but shoulda pulled the w/p cover. Kinda f'd that one up. But we didn't run it enough to hurt it and he got just a little seat time so he knows what it feels like.
