old put-put
When doing a leakdown test how long does the engine need to hold 6 psi to consider it a good seal?
gotta_goatsfast
You will get tons of opinions. As for me? I won't accept an engine until it holds 6 psi for 10 minutes. Some guys say 1 psi per minute is acceptable. Its your machine, you be the judge.
Bad one ton
I heard its 6 psi for 6 minutes and the acceptable leakage is 1psi in 6 minutes. TON! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Jereme6655
Ive heard both....6 psi for 6 minutes allowing 1 psi drop per minute.....and 6psi for 6 minutes 1 psi drop in all 6 minutes. This is what I do...... I take my time prepping the cases and I always wipe down the mating surfaces with some mineral spirits or carb cleaner and then apply the sealant. Take your time with the sealant because if you goof it and don't get it to seal right then you get the fun of splitting the cases again and peeling all that shit off all over again. So just take your time..........and when I leak test mine......I don't let it go back in the bike if it leaks more than 1 psi in 20 minutes. I know....picky huh? old put-put
i wont run mine unless it holds 6 psi always.. Kevin at HJR built the motor, but fedex mashed it in the delivery process, so I sent the cylinder back and putting the cylinder and head back on, then leak down test so just checking on base gasket and orings and intake. Jereme6655
Still the same.....make sure it holds the 6psi for at least 6 minutes..

old put-put
Still the same.....make sure it holds the 6psi for at least 6 minutes.. It held 6 psi for 15 minutes then dropped to 5 psi, in an hour and a half it was about 0, any opinions?
old put-put
It held 6 psi for 15 minutes then dropped to 5 psi, in an hour and a half it was about 0, any opinions? Well I thought I would check it again and found out that my tester was leaking where the guage threaded into the pvc cap. So I resealed the guage letting it dry and will test again tomorrow. Hopefully that is where it was leaking from, very small amount of bubbles, but it is a very small leak.
