What batteries are you using?

Just thought I'd ask what batteries your using on your dc conversions?

 

At the moment I'm using a Ktm ytx5l-bs which runs at 4ah, and am considering running a slightly bigger ytx7l-bs which is 6ah.

 

Anyone tried different batteries and noticed much difference?

There are much smaller batteries that can be used. Even if you're running HID's, you shouldn't need more than 4ah. Would something like that be able to handle 140w?

I'm planning on running 110w on my headlights, then I have rear stop/tail, side repeaters/markers and a horn. And could that be wired into the dc circuit and be charged by the bike?

 

The only reason I'd used that particular battery is because I used a Ktm battery tray, they're only about $10-12 and bolt up under the seat connected to 2 l shaped brackets.

TECHNICALLY, no, since Watts = Volts x Amps (=81.6watts). That is with the assumption that the bike would not be running while you are using all of this equipment, all the time. With that being said, wattage capability of a battery when used in conjunction with a magneto style charging system is irrelevant. As long as you don't go over the wattage rating of your stator, the battery is simply there to act as a buffer between pulses of electricity to "smooth out" the power flow. These machines don't use the same power source for ignition like a car would. They have a separate "charging" circuit in this case dedicated to your lights or accessories.

 

So basically, yeah, you can run a 900mah 12v battery with all that stuff and be just fine. You won't be able to run it all for very long while the bike is off, but you also won't be relying on that same battery to start the bike.
