87BRBanshee
Hey guys, im new to Banshee HQ, I came from bluetraxx since nobody likes to help there, and thanks to someone who directed me here. But anyway I need to replace the crank seals in my Banshee. The clutch side seal is the one that went bad. What do i HAVE to take off? The manual is telling me to remove everything, which i want to avoid doing if I can. I know i have to pull the clutch and flywheel off, but what else is nessasary? blubyyou
You need to split the cases to properly replace them. Buy yourself a Clymers manual for your banshee ....run around $30 from a site sponsor. I believe there is a write up somewhere on here with pics doing a complete rebuild. Not a difficult job but a little time consuming. Basic tools, torque wrench, flywheel puller, new seals/gaskets, and some 3bond sealant should get you back up and running. Also search for a how to on building a leak down tester to make sure there isn't any ait leaks after you seal the cases back. Good luck and welcome to BHQ! I Have the manual and i know i have to split the cases, but its telling me I have to pull the cylinders, heads, pistons, and a bunch of other stuff. The quad was just recently rebuilt but the nut and washer fell of the end of the clutch adjuster and i believe thats what ruined the seal because the nut was torn apart. gotta_goatsfast
I would pull it apart and inspect for damage anyway. These two stroke motors are childs play to assemble. Plus it gives us a good opportunity to pressure you into more go-fast parts. haha
gotta_goatsfast
Pshhh, you're a friend of special? GTFO Unless you port your cylinders. Then you're cool enough to stay. Edit: pics of your girlfriend wins you points too.

dave5.0
I just recently did a redneck reaseal on my bottom end. Flipped it upside down, pulled the bottom case, then the trans. Cleaned everything up with the crank held up outa the way (it won't come out with the pistons still attached, not on a cub anyway). Put new seals in it, added new sealer, slapped the trans in it, put the cases back together. Torqued everything down and let it sit for a day. Slapped it back in the bike and rode the crap out of it. Still workin. Kinda surprised myself. Edited August 28, 2012 by dave5.
troyzstang
Welcome to BansheeHQ I agree with the other members. Pull it down for inspection. I just buttoned up my bottom end tonight. I had a piston shatter. Just turn on some tunes and enjoy quality time with the Shee. Good luck Once again Welcome to your new home. dave5.0
I guess for clarification I knew I didn't have anything dicked up I'm my lower end other than a leak. So wasn't worth the extra effort and the top end only has 4 tanks ran through it. If your picking chunks out your gonna be better off pullin all the way down. Or finding them after they eat a bearing.

Does 1211 really take all weekend to dry??? I want to ride asap damn it lol And where can i get said 1211??
87BRBanshee
Might want to try a power sports shop. Someone that sells atvs, dirt bikes etc. Harley shops, or people even use red RTV I believe which can be purchased at auto parts store. I use 1211 so hopefully someone will chime in on that stuff. It doesn't take all weekend, but for sure overnight. Also make sure you do a LEAKDOWN TEST! Ok so i know the leak down test checks for air leaks, but what does it mean if there is a leak? sheerider11
Ok so i know the leak down test checks for air leaks, but what does it mean if there is a leak? Your getting un accounted air into the motor. More air leans out the mixture. Lean mixtures run hot, to hot actually. So you burn up the motor and all your work went down the drain. Starwriter
A flywheel puller is only $15. It's one of those must have tools. Right along with a leakdown tester, carb sync tool, and compression gauge.
