Nightmare Posted August 26, 2012 Report Posted August 26, 2012 I'm looking for a new work truck. I'm done with chevys and gmc's. The gas mpg's are awful even with the 4.8l. I drive a lot and average about 40,000 miles a year. I need something with good fuel mileage but also needs a v8 for hauling capabilities. And it needs to be at least a 1/2 ton. Throw me some opinions guys. Quote
gotta_goatsfast Posted August 26, 2012 Report Posted August 26, 2012 Ecoboost F150. Drive one before you form any opinions.... Quote

Nightmare Posted August 26, 2012 Author Report Posted August 26, 2012 Ecoboost F150. Drive one before you form any opinions.... I ve taken a ride in one and loved it. Just cant find a used one within my budget. Quote
Nightmare Posted August 26, 2012 Author Report Posted August 26, 2012 F150 FX4? Dont really need another 4x4 Quote
gotta_goatsfast Posted August 26, 2012 Report Posted August 26, 2012 The used dodge gassers are the worst for fuel mileage and the 5.4L F150s won't be far off from the chevrolet V8s either. Find an 09-10 F150 with the 5.4L and you'll atleast have a 6 speed auto to help motivate loads. But all the V8s from all the brands are going to be sub-20 mpg. Quote
Nightmare Posted August 26, 2012 Author Report Posted August 26, 2012 my dad has a 4.6 f150, depending on the load and how you drive, it ranges from like 13-18 towing on the highway. my brother got an ecoboost for a rental while his tundra was getting the frame fixed, that ecoboost is fucking bad ass. brother's tundra has a 4.7, it sucks gas down, going to Ls last year, i think we were getting like 12mpg, towing a little trailer that held one quad. but we was going like 80-90 most of the way. plus the bed is too small for a work truck. I'm gonna use it for a pilot car to follow oversized loads so between 50 and 65 mph. The most it will haul is a couple of shee's on a trailer. I think im gonna checkout the f150's. Thanks for the help guys Quote
Nightmare Posted August 26, 2012 Author Report Posted August 26, 2012 Thanks Zilla, looks like the Tacoma wouldnt be a bad choice. Quote
yzrmbsg Posted August 26, 2012 Report Posted August 26, 2012 Thanks Zilla, looks like the Tacoma wouldnt be a bad choice. Thought you wanted a 1/2 ton minimum? Quote
gotta_goatsfast Posted August 26, 2012 Report Posted August 26, 2012 You don't need a half ton if the purpose of the vehicle is to pilot a semi and haul a few ATVs. Quote
So Cal Suspension Posted August 26, 2012 Report Posted August 26, 2012 Thought you wanted a 1/2 ton minimum? and a v8 for "hauling capabilities"... but "The most it will haul is a couple of shee's on a trailer." Quote
gotta_goatsfast Posted August 26, 2012 Report Posted August 26, 2012 Its ironic (in my area atleast) most of the 3/4 and 1 ton diesel pickups end up as "hotrods" for the redneck crowd while Rangers and S10s are commonly seen hauling yard waste, toys, pop up campers, boats, ect... Its rather annoying because every stoplight is a race for them (which means blackout for us) and they clutter up the byron dragstrip with their buddies pulling ghey ass 13-14 seconds at best while the real 8-10 second cars have to wait in line for these fags to finish. Nightmare Posted August 26, 2012 Author Report Posted August 26, 2012 and a v8 for "hauling capabilities"... but "The most it will haul is a couple of shee's on a trailer." I've drove a pilot car with a v6 and the overhead sign holds it back a lot. It more of a toll on gas mileage than a small v8. Quote
Nightmare Posted August 26, 2012 Author Report Posted August 26, 2012 Thought you wanted a 1/2 ton minimum? I wasn't taking the Tacoma into consideration when I typed that. Quote
