another overheating thread with a twist

Recommended Posts

I was very surprised to see such a big difference from just two degrees of timing. Like I said I have been chasing this for over a year. I kept thinking it was jetting or the impellar or rad. When I finally went through every single thing there could be I tried the timing and wala. I never heard any one tell me that maybe plus 4 timing can make me run hotter then it should. Good luck and let us know

I was trying to get to it today but was unable, but will get to it in the morning and I will be sure to let you know. I know that so many guys run the +4 timing and seemingly

do it with no problems. Probably why I never thought to back the timing back. Thanks for the tip. I keep imagining the thought of being able to ride for more than a few

minutes at a time. I should know tomorrow.

Update

Well, I took it out today, temp about 110 and humidity probably 90-95%.

With the timing backed down to +1*, really didn't see any difference in the temps it ran. I did however notice a considerable decrease in performance and how fast is wasn't

able to get on the pipe as compared to +4*.

Back to drawing board. Next thing is to put back in the factory radiator. Really thought we were on to something with the timing fix.

Thanks

I know you said it is running fat but I would go up three main jet sizes and see what happens. Maybe, possibly you are lean but it feels fat to you. Personally I always resist going up when i think it is correct but many times it was just a mental block and I needed the bigger jet.

Thanks Jerry, I'll try it, its easy enough to do with the PKW's

I was really hoping I could help you out. That was gonna be my next step was to go to a stock rad just to see ebay happened. Hope you get it soon.

Thanks, still looking for some 10W30 oil for tranny, nothing is easy here. I never knew how lucky I was with all the conveniences we have in the States until

I moved from them. Things are very different here.

Well I had kinda given up on this for a while.  To answer your question, not really, just been dealing with it.  I did put the OEM radiator back in with no change, so put the bigger radiator back in.  I have noticed the temps really climb when running in very deep rutted sand, by deep ruts, I mean 1 foot+ in some spots.  I have also worked out a sort of sweet spot throttle wise where the temps kinda level off around 200*-210*F when just cruising around.  Whenever possible I try to face it in the wind say if we stop briefly.

Took it out yesterday, was about 85* with average humidity and at sea level.  I had to stop maybe twice duning with the wind at my back.

Just kinda accepting it at this point.
